New employee, hostile co worker(s)

How does one deal with this? you're friendly, enthusiastic to the new environment, only to find some co workers who are not so friendly towards you, you greet, you get a mumble or delayed response? I over heard one jokingly say they don't like me :wtf: she didn't even get to know me, humans are strange creatures... (same race by the way, just in case someone decides to pull the race card on this one :whistle:)

As silly as it is. It’s schoolyard antics. You’re a new face in an established area so you’re not yet part of any clique.

Try establish common ground if you can.

Imagine if everyone actually put that much effort into doing ACTUAL work, then there'd be no time in the day for these schoolyard antics and other politics. But yeah, the world works funny hey... taking time off due to illness is frowned upon but there's always budget in the company schedule for office politics and childish behaviour.

I have left two jobs in the past, all within 3 weeks due to this, in the end it turned out to be a very wise decision in both cases.
 
Whenever I read these threads I wonder how do people manage to find companies like this ?

If ever you hear them say something bad like they don't like you or if they give you any kind of problem just laugh at them, trust me there is nothing worse that someone you dislike laughing at you
 
People form opinions of you very quickly, a few minutes after meeting you in fact. Do you have bad breath, poor dress, body odour, bad haircut/shave, dull shoes, walk with your head down and back bent and either talk too loud or quick? Pay attention to your smile as well.

People generally warm up quickly to a confident and well groomed person.

Its easy... you get desperate to make a move and take whatever job you can find. However, if you put in the effort to get to know the people upfront (which I found also boosts your chances) then you can make a judgement call about the people in the prospective new workplace.

I myself have had the problems the OP mentioned, as have some of my friends. Its not something that doesn't exist- I believe its something that companies ought to make an effort to stamp out, but ja, different strokes for different folks

Stop being so cheerful. People hate that.
 
Smile. It will drive them nuts.
Then proceed to destroy them in every performance indicator.
Make sure they know this. And make sure they know you don't give a rats ass what they think. (which you actually don't - its a job, not a relationship)

I'm a nice guy, polite, helpful, have good manners. Because its more efficient than being a *******. A number of times people have mistaken that for weakness, only to realize its not - long after its too late.
