When a subscriber has used their provisioned capacity, and they have a uncapped package, then they will be throttled to 64 kb/s.

The policy when a subscriber is throttled is that a web page will display the status when they login, and thereafter every 100 url clicks.

The purpose of this is to alert you the subscriber of your throttled state so that you don’t troubleshoot a slow speed issue and make it easy for you to top up or migrate to a higher package so that you can again experience higher speeds.

This is now in a test phase. Initially it was every 30 clicks and after your valued feedback it has been extended to ensure a better quality of browsing.

Please feel free to contact me should you have any queries regarding this feature. Your opinions are most welcome.

Thanks

So the people were right in the other thread about it being a feature :p

Suggestion: Can Iburst not maybe provide an option to opt out of it? A lot of us know when we're capped and don't really mind not being redirected to the iburst page? :)

100 clicks is better than 30 clicks, but I think that it will still be irritating for some of us.

I agree, there should be an option to disable this "New Feature" in my log-in page at iBurst.

This is the funniest thing I have read this morning!
I had to check to see if this is April 1st.... nope.
After all the feature requests I have read on the forums, this is presented as a feature that is not optional... just in case you do not happen to know you are capped, here is a reminder.

How is this a feature ? Has browsing on IBurst become such a crap experience that you need confirmation that you are not capped before phoning support because the bandwidth monitors are non-functional? The daily usage email does not hint at a clue as to where I am in my capped threshold? Will support make me click 100 times to see if the "feature" confirms my slow speed it due to being capped?

I am really not surprised that the millions hinted at being spent by IBurst to improve user experience has resulted in the development and implementation of an irritating feature denied until now....

No cool.... but I guess when Product has uttered minions must move.

this isnt a feature.. :P this is plain annoying.. if im throttled and browsing.. why on earth would u redirect me.. every 100 clicks..

I have to agree with being able to disable this feature. Being notified once when you exceed your data allocation is welcome & a good feature that I like, but having it regularly pop up to remind me after that is rapidly going to become highly irritating. I really don't enjoy having my browser hijacked, even after only every 100 page loads.

And perhaps rather than redirecting to the page, how about having a separate browser tab or window open up instead? There's a reason I was navigating to the page I was heading to after all :p

EDIT

Another suggestion, how about including an option on the alert page you're redirected to "Continue browsing to your page" or something?

Why not just send an email to us instead, I mean most of us (iBurst customers) know when we are capped and to be interupted in mid browsing is not, well enjoyable.

Either make it an option in the account area or take remove this feature alltogether.

But its niceto see that iBurst did take the time to change it from 30 to 100 but its still an inconvenience to many of us.

Tho for now, until iBurst gets itself sorted with the iffy cap monitoring etc its an OK "feature" to have, I say this because I cant login to check my cap.

Browser Hijacking:

Browser hijacking is the modification of a web browser's settings by malware. The term "hijacking" is used as the changes are performed without the user's permission. Some browser hijacking can be easily reversed, while other instances may be difficult to reverse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Browser_hijacking

Browser hijacking is a type of online fraud. Scammers use malicious software to take control of your computer's Internet browser and change how and what it displays when you're surfing the Web.

How do they determine the 100 clicks? Are they storing a cookie on your machine or what?

i just can't believe a company would blantantly do something like this...don't they KNOW they are going to irritate the living crap out of everyone?

iBurst is heading the wrong way IMO - stop pushing away the customers you have FFS

I'm telling you guys, jannie is definitely a rouge agent or something, i can't believe jannie approved this...it's just not jannie!

its quite clever actually

Annoy people every 100 clicks and basically tell them "you have used all your bandwith, and are now surfing for "free", we want you to spend some more money on our products... go on, do it GIVE US MONEY!!!"

haha, an ISP with Nagware.... classic

imo they are only making the throttled experience worse.

that's like MS Office giving you nag screens every 100 clicks asking you to buy Office Professional - you have already paid for the service

nag screens isn't going to change everyone's minds to buy more boosters, it's just gonna irritate them more.

I see other ISP's taking initiative to bring more customers in, like afrihost's R29/GB offer - seems like iBurst just wants to drive their customers away.

Jannie - fire the guys that think up this stuff, and hire some innovative people like Afrihost have.

stop thinking about making more money and start focusing on giving your customers a better experience!

He he. This new feature is very "irritating" and I myself have stated this in other posts.

Send us a email with this info... once reached. Don't treat us like idiots, because reminding us every 100 pages is like saying "you can't remember ****, so don't forget"

it almost seems as if they are desperate for the money or something....
very bad image imo..

they should put a picture of a beggar on that page, with an iburst t-shirt on.

This is what I understand of a;

feature
(n.) A notable property of a device or software application.

Perhaps Product at IBurst was refering to this;

fee-tour
the seemingly endless addition of more and more frustration onto what was once a simple operation.

Maybe they installed the shareware version of iBOSS and this is the reminder screens for their users to pay up so that they can buy the full version. Who knows?

possibly, but i'm starting to think they WANT to irritate their customers...
