New features heading to WhatsApp

WABetaInfo has detailed new features available in the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android.

The features were added in beta version 2.20.117 and are currently under development.

Although these are not yet available in commercial versions of the app, beta features give an indication of what can be expected in official future updates.

Hmm good, useful features, FB should just be careful not to follow in MS's footsteps of over complicating things and ruining the app, its always just worked flawlessly without issues lets hope they can keep it that way.

When will it be possible to use WhatsApp on a PC without having it connected to a cellphone? Was this not one of the changes mentioned last year?
Your cellphone doesn't need to be connected to your pc

Not having decent search in WhatsApp has been a real pain sometimes. Glad to see it finally being introduced in some form.

Still can't edit messages and delete messages without that stupid 'message deleted' thing.
Dafuq is their problem not implementing these?

a priority should be having unified back up. the idea that switching between iOS and Android means you have to start fresh is crazy.

I would also like to see the ability of using the web platform without your phone needing to be connected.

Telegram is much further ahead despite having far less users.

^^, many other apps already do that

No but your cellphone needs to be connected to the internet constantly.
Genuine question - but where the is the issue with that?

I don't recall the last time my phone was off and not connected

Think of it this way, imagine you needed to have shoes on for your pants to work.

Does it not perhaps have a effect on your phones data usage and a little on the battery? Your phone is basically being used as a conduit for WhatsApp to send messages and media to your PC browser or App on your PC / Laptop. It takes data to first receive the message from whatsapp server, then again to send it via whatsapp to the client on your pc/laptop ..... or is this not the case?

With Telegram it is not the case, it is handled in the cloud, hence why you can do it on multiple devices at the same time and all are synced nicely etc, except for secret chats. Because that is encrypted end to end.

where is the option in Whatsapp to 'Not Phone Me'? Hide my number like Telegram can

for instance, my workplace has fibre so great internet access but quite a few networks have shitty reception and management doesnt allow everyone onto wifi

Is the point of scanning the QR code not just to ensure that the person connecting to WhatsApp Web actually has the phone in their possession?

Nope. It uses your phone as a conduit. So if your phone is turned off, even after you validated with the QR code or your phone loses internet connection, you cannot do whatsapp on your PC. With Telegram, once you have validated your number with scanning either the code or pin sent to your phone app, then you can turn your phone off and still send and receive your messages.
