I keep on going on about the RS price in SA, and how we are getting shafted. Some dude replied about import duties and taxes etc. The comparison between this and the civic proves it. Nevermind the Golf R. It's plain and simple that Ford SA are just raping us with that price now. With the limited numbers, some dealers are asking R900 000. Trying to decide between an M135/140 or facelift A45 which I must start saving for.
 
^ I'll say it again...it's the "Mustang Effect" ie. Eagerly anticipated car like the Mustang; Focus RS; M2 + limited local supply + relatively high demand + dealer raping (no Vaseline) = excessive local price vs eg. UK market.



Keep us/me up to date about your M140i or MY2016 A45 story/hunt...I'm eager to know of your final choice

I too am eager to know my final choice.;) Leaning towards a M135i, cheaper and RWD. Wouldn't notice the extra 15hp compared to the M140.

You are so right in the Mustang. Supposed to be the Everyman sports car, ridiculous bang for buck. But nope, Ford SA ask us to bend over.
 
If you are going with the M135i make sure it's the ewg model. Personally I would go for the M140i. From my research I think this newer spec is a bit quicker in stock form and not just 15hp quicker. Also would the prices of the older models not fall substantially when the new one releases?

Regarding ford, I also think they have lost the plot. They have become so greedy and this will show in the SA market. Their service is so bad how can you justify buying such an expensive ford when BMW and Merc have more affordable options.

Ford Focus RS 'drift mode' wasn't planned...

A Ford Performance engineer has revealed that the drift mode featured in the Focus RS was discovered entirely by chance.

Speaking to motoring.com.au, Ford Performance vehicle and engineering manager Tyrone Johnson said the mode wasn’t at all planned.

“It was more like one of my guys sitting in the car – the lead dynamics guys sitting in the car – and next to him is the guy who is doing the calibration of the all-wheel drive system with a lap-top on his knees,” Johnson said.

“And they are talking and he says ‘oh, let me try this out’ and he tries it and he says ‘oh, that’s cool, can you give me more of that?’. And he gives him more and he says ‘that’s really cool’ and then it starts working.

“I guess it’s just because we are a bunch of crazy guys. We just do things,” Johnson told the Australian publication.

He went on to explain that Raj Nair, the brand’s global technical and development chief, later gave the drift mode the green light.

“We put it together and we showed it to Raj and we said ‘this is a nice little trick we can also do with this … with the mode system and the specific set-up for drifting capability’.

“And it was actually Raj who said ‘we have got to market this, this is a cool feature. We need to make this a prominent part of the programme, as opposed to a side note’,” said Johnson.

Drift mode has proved controversial in Australia, where safety campaigners have called for the Focus RS to be recalled to have the mode disabled.

Hence why I am angling for the 135. Deals to be had. And I'm personally one not to brag about the numbers(tho 500nm does sound cool), more enjoy the feeling, hence RWD.

Aha so 200/300 sold already..

But the price is a bitter pill to swallow, especially since in the UK it costs three-quarters of an RS3 or A45 and you won’t quite see that gap in the comparison below. It’s a supply-demand thing, though, as Ford is sending just 300 our way, with 200 already spoken for and the remaining third yet to be allocated. It’s a damn shame that Ford is playing hard to get with such a delightful machine, but that’s life, ain’t it?

Ford has revealed details of the official “Ford Performance by Mountune” power upgrade package for the all-wheel drive Focus RS.

Co-developed by Ford Performance and performance specialist Mountune, the approved upgrade boosts peak power from the 2,3-litre EcoBoost engine by 18 kW to 275 kW and peak torque by 40 N.m to 510 N.m on overboost.

With the kit fitted, the zero to 100 km/h sprint falls two-tenths to 4,5 seconds, although top speed is unchanged at 266 km/h.

The Mountune kit for the Focus RS includes a high-performance air-filter, bespoke alloy crossover duct with high-performance silicone hoses, an upgraded air re-circulation valve and, of course, revised software tuning for the engine ECU.

Ford says the package will be available in selected European markets and priced at £899 (around R16 000) in the United Kingdom. We’re highly unlikely to see it offered here in South Africa.

Any Mountune-appointed Ford dealer will be able to fit the upgrade in one-and-a-half hours and the automaker says it is “fully compatible” with the Ford warranty.
