Hi folks

I have received numerous emails asking for forums to discuss ISDN & dial-up, which is why I have added the poll on the front page. By the results so far it looks like there might be a need for these forums. We have added them and we monitor their popularity. If they prove to be unpopular we can simply move all the posts to off-topic and remove them…

As usual your feedback will be appreciated.

Regards,

RPM

I think, with the way things are going, telkom are going to force us all back onto dialup - those forums may be quite necessary so that we can all complain about our frequent disconnections when this happens :p

I think having discrete sections is a good idea, it will reduce clutter in other forums, and also attract a user base of internet users.. although just plain sections will do, we don't need 'Dialup Technical' and 'Dialup General' for example :)

Consumerism & Deregulation

been talking to RPM about this already but may as well see what everyone feels about this....
Personally feel that our ACTIONS (that speak louder then words) should be findable, followable and visible so have suggested the following

I think if we moved Consumerism and deregulation out of the general discussions area and popped it into its own category like under Announcements so like this....
Announcements
Announcements
News discussions
Main MyADSL Site
Consumerism & Deregulation
Consumerism & Deregulation Discussion
Active Campaigns (Our Activities)
Consumer Watch (Watchdog on Industry Promises)
Rest of Forum Headings follow
I am happy as I said to moderate and manage the whole new block and will recruit Debbie, Pan, MaD and a few others to assist.
Thoughts?

Ja that looks good.. keeping current events alive in those sections would be perfect. Not sure if I would be allowed to be a mod on MyADSL tho lol ;)

I think its a good idea moving them out of the General Discussions area but wont there be some duplication with the Telkom Section?

Hi guys

The new forum has been created as a child forum of the C&D forum... I am certain it will be of value to track campaigns & promises by companies, government etc.

These are ideas that are rattling my brain...

<my_personal_opinion>
I like the idea of areas for the "broadband-challenged" :D to also participate in the community, IMO a good idea, however/but, I have an alternative suggestion relating to the new forum area:

Other Services: ISDN, 56k Dial-up, Diginet
  • Personally [as a recent user of both], I suspect, that ISDN and 56k being both dialup, are sufficiently similar to be able to co-exist in the same forum, i.e. one forum should be good enough for both ATM, if I'm wrong we can always create a separate forum later & move threads over...
  • I would very much like to see a separate forum specifically for Internet Security, where we can discuss firewalls, anti-virus proggies, anti-malware etc...
  • With the above in mind, I suggest/recommend:
    • Renaming "Other Services: ISDN, 56k Dial-up, Diginet" to something like:
      "Other Internet Related Forums"
    • Combine ISDN and 56k into a single forum.
    • Creating a new "Internet Security" forum in that same area.

ISDN and 56k dialup together...

likes IC suggestion:

Though i rather fear tis too late to be saved at this point... I may just surprise myself and Learn something from a Security forum. ;)

HEY, were did the 56k go

that was my ection...lol ;)

It's a great idea whichever way you look at it.

You can't send a fax via ADSL - leastways, not that I know of. So I hooked up an old 56 v90 modem and sent a fax.

Dialup is going to be around for a long time to come.

Hi IC and WretcedToadlll

Thanks for the suggestions...done :D
Hi RPM

 thanks :).

Methinks Internet Security is something everyone needs to know about, specifically people moving from dialup to broadband, the concepts of firewalls and malware are IMO mostly foreign to the average Joes and Janes.

thumbs up, although a not a dial up user myself. suggestion from above mentions to using Other Services: ISDN, 56k Dial-up, Diginet brillant.

Forums for applications

Nothing to do with ISDN/dialup but the topic started as 'New Forums'.

There is already a Games/Gaming forum. I would like to see other applications that are based on broadband getting forums. I am specially thinking of VoIP but there may be others. I believe Mybroadband (not MyADSL) is a better home for VoIP than the separate bulletin board as at present but it may ruffle a few feathers.

I think a separate forum for dialup is a good idea. Also, I think that Peapod's suggestions about "active campaigns" could be a useful one.

Scan and send as PDF and they can print it out?
