Man it is fast. Actually faster in some cases than Windows Live mail running on my PC. The new contacts stuff looks cool too. Just wish that they would pretty it up a little bit but I choose speed over looks anyday...

Well you aren't missing much. Looks almost identical. They have changed the interface for dealing with contacts. The main difference is speed. With ADSL it is almost instant to load messages from your inbox. Apparently they optimized a lot of the Javascript stuff and also preload a lot of data...

I finally got it on my main account. I had seen it previously on my Brothers account.

I got it, but find it INCREDIBLY slow... I sometimes have to send the same mail six times to get it to send.

I noticed that I had the new interface the other day. Haven't really noticed a speed increase. One thing that I have noticed that's rather annoying is that if I archive a message, or apply a label, or send a message, and then try to close my gmail tab (in FF), I get a message saying "The system is busy; if you navigate away from this page your changes might be lost". It does it almost every time.

I've got it if I access via Firefox or Camino but not Safari or Opera.

From the Gmail Blog
So recently the Gmail team has been working on a structural code change that we'll be rolling out to Firefox 2 and IE 7 users over the coming weeks (with other browsers to follow). You won't notice too many differences to start with, but we're using a new model that enables us to iterate faster and share components (we now use the same rich text editor as Groups and Page Creator, and the Contact Manager can be seen in several Google apps). A few other things you will notice are some new keyboard shortcuts and the ability to bookmark specific messages and email searches.
