I have a Roku dongle in my main TV, and a Chromecast in the TV in the Bedroom. It is a great secondary mediaplayer, but the Roku unit with its Wifi remote and channels has it beat - hands down.
But this new model, together with the ethernet adapter - sounds like a great device. I think its time to upgrade.

I'm using one on my normal Samsung 50" LED tv and it works great so I didn't feel the need to upgrade to a smart TV.

I use it mainly with plex and Youtube and it works great ....except if I have large movie files over 4gb to play from plex and then it doesnt stream so smoothly and pauses every so often.This is basically because the 2.4ghz wifi range is over used and the current chromecast only supports that band.

I'm sure the 5ghz band for wifi will sort this out so I'm looking forward to this second version with improved wifi bands.

I don't have DSL at home but I'm on an LTE package with Cell C. I've got the Zte ltee mf910 router.

Question: will this router enable me to cast over the WiFi Network? Can I cast local content using this router?

So long as it creates a wifi network, you're good to go. You should be able to sign up for a trial with netflix za without any problems. Might be easier to get the netflix app on your phone & cast from there to the chromecast (all connected to the MF910's wifi network).
