New graphics card, advice please.

1920x1080 single monitor

Ok, been looking at reviews. Seems the R9 280X will suit me better. I guess the 290 will be overkill for 1920x1080? Eliminating future proofing makes me a sad panda.

280X is a monster.

Just again get one with a custom cooler.

To better future proof. Buy a card for R3k take the other R3k put into a savings account, get some interest on it, and buy a card in another 2 years. You are not going to get major difference in performance between a R3k card and a R6k if you know what to buy, and you can buy a new card In 2 or 3 years, that will blow your R6k card out the water for half the price.

Agreed with this, very good advice, technology advances so quickly these days than it doesn't really make sense anymore to spend so much on a GPU when games that come out in say 2, 3 years time require much more, it would be better to buy a new GPU then because the technology then will have advanced much more.
