New Graphics Card and Red Lines

Hey Guys,

I have built a brand new machine over the weekend, and set up all my software and drivers etc using the onboard VGA.

Yesterday I decided to install my new GeCube Raedon HD 3850 Graphics Card.
- Installed it
- Changed the priority graphics device in BIOS to PCI-Express
- Noticed that small dots and funny lines appeared randomly on screen
- Loaded the drivers that came with the ATI card.
- On restart of the driver installation got a blue screen with reported file error being "ati2dvag".
- Re-booted and although blue screen did not re-appear the display was littered with random dots, vertical red lines, and all kinds of other garbage.

Re-booted a few times with random errors occuring. From the same blue screen to no screen at all to garbage, but never the correct start-up.

Any ideas ?

BTW: I have also downloaded the latest drivers for the card from ATI website, but that made no difference either

uninstall the card reload with new drivers

check the temp of the card

if this fail reload your machine fresh

if this still does not work take it back for testing, might be a bust card

I am going to re-install windows and drivers from scratch but I am going to use the G card from the start as the display driver.

Think this is a good idea ?

yup install fresh with all the hardware your going to use, that way no drivers can conflict

if you still come up short its either your pci slot or vga card thats busted

your not overlcocking this pc right?

Also try downloading the "Driver Only" package off of AMD's website and install only that.

The one with Catalyst Control Center(CCC) can cause funny shyte with many errors due to .net dependency issues. There is allot that can go wrong there. Driver CD's install it by default.

Give it a shot before reloading.. it solved many issues and error messages with my HD3870
