New harddrive, CPU overheating?

I think your steps should be as follows, taking in mind effort and costs.

1. Remove and reseat heat sink with new thermal paste.
2. New CPU cooler - Hyper 212+ @ R280
3. New case - CM RC334 @ R399

Its a gigabyte odin psu btw.

i was considering this one: RC-506 Centurion 5 II can get it for 69o at antec here in pe.
And yes that same cooler.

Edit:Is that site reliable? cause they are a bit cheaper...

Yes, they are, I have bought quite a few stuff from them, because they are so cheap. If you check the price before discount, it's about the same as what you will be paying for it.

That case doesn't look that bad.

ikonicit is a reliable store. And that is a good case choice. Fresh air comes in front bottom, then exits top rear. Add in two fans on the side if necassary, nice that they can be up to 140mm. Though only buy the case if steps one and two fail as mentioned

Hmm, did actually get to buy some gel today, and i just applied it to both my gpu and cpu heatsinks. Currently im setting one harddrive to compress its data (about 500gbs worth) and its staying between 45 and 55 my cpu, gpu is idealing at about 35. Both sides of the case are off however and the older ide harddrive is out still.

I'll give it some more testing tonight and tomorrow, maybe the gel was the problem, it was kinda manky. Thanks a lot for the advice everyone :) i'll post back what happens after some more testing, might still get the case or better heatsink.

You must repeat the tests under the same conditions. Removing the sides lowers temps immensely as much more air can get in. Put those sides back on! :)

Was just doing it in stages. :) Case is back together, portable fan is off, and ide harddrive is plugged in as well. Still going okay same heat brackets as above. I'll do more testing tonight like playing wow ;) while it does some other tasks.

Okay just to conclude, it seems that the old thermal gel was worn out, it was kinda patchy and not complete... It's likey that the addition of the new harddrive caused the case temp to spike and that was all it needed. After cleaning out minimal dust, reapplying thermal gel and i tried to reposition drives better for more air flow, everything is working perfectly. :)
