On the CPU side, do you need a dual core? What will you use the processor for? Because 9/10 programs wont make use of the dual core so in actual fact only one of the 2 cores (it being a 3000+ in your case) will be in use, a waste. For the price of a X2 3800+ you could get a single core 4000+ which is awesme and maybe a better idea ATM

I'd disagree. I've found my X2 3800+ really useful - I can do things like re-catalog MP3 while playing a playing a game, and the game is smooth. Who whole experience is so much smoother. Even if a particular application doesn't support multiple cores, the load of other apps can be shared between the cores.

If you want to run only one thing at a time, single core is fine. Some of us run other things in the background though.

Another thing to consider ATM wes is that in the next few months there is a whole lot of new stuff coming out, including the new M2 socket (supports ddrII) for AMD which will eventually replace 939 (in like 2 yrs), so if you are buying a whle new setup, now is not the right time. However if you already have a 939 mobo and just want to upgrade its fine. Also recently i heard that new Nvidia GFX cards are coming out in about 3 months, rumour has it they will kill any 7800xxx card, apparntly 20000+ 3d Mark 05 pts thats a hell of a lot more.

With all this I have decided to wait until about april for my new PC, maybe you should do they same

Sounds like a valid point, I have already bought a case, a powersupply and a 939 mobo so I am still short a couple of components. So I am in the process of building a new PC as the finances come in. So I kinda have to stick with what I have already. I could possible wait till april and then maybe the stuff will be cheaper.

Hey,

Right we import alot of pc products into South Africa, it wills all nice and all because of the price but once you get it here things all change.

Problems:
Import Costs
Shipping Costs
If it need to be repaired it needs to be sent back
Often depending on shipping can take 3 weeks to arrive.
Most places do not ship to SA.

Its worth it if your bring in more than 10 items but for one item its really not worth it.
