I was actually approached with a job offer to help with the software on these badboys a couple of months ago. Pity my personal situation didn't allow me to move to Jhb. Would've been fun.

Hmmm...I wonder what the UEC DVR is going to look like. This one perhaps?

Not a looker at all. Much prefer the Pace DVR.

Actually, I think that's quite a nice clean, slim design. IMO the current HD decoders look somewhat retro - something like an 80's attempt at a futuristic design.

Whatever the aesthetics, I just hope the new decoders will incorporate xtraview without need for additional decoder. More devices = more capital expense + more heat + more electricity + more cables + more potential problems. We need less hassles at lower cost - pay attention Multichoice!

This is dumb Monochoice. Why not make the cheaper version a single tuner HD - HDMI decoder only and cut the price to below R600 for the decoder. Why are you forced to pay for a PVR if you want HD. I have a HTPC and have no need for a PVR and I believe there a lot more people with DVD recorders etc. or just don't want to record stuff because of all the repeats.

+1 .. my HTPC does a great job .. who needs PVR

You need the PVR unless your HTPC supports HDCP, because the HDPVR will NOT output the HD signal over any output method that isn't encrypted via HDCP.

With all the repeats who needs a PVR. Instead of digging out old family photographs, just tune in to watch the same cr@p again when you want to show the grand kids what it used to be like when you were their age.

There is only one problem with the new UEC decoder is that Multichoice has instructed UEC to manufacture the decoder the same as the PACE decoder!!!!This is not great for the consumer as the pace decoder is not quite keeping pace at this point.

I feel that Pace and multichoice are like microsoft launching stuff that has bugs and defects and hope to write software patches to fix them, but we must still struggle with incomplete service and software. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO GET IT RIGHT????Time will tell.

There is nothing wrong with the Pace decoder... The problems were firmware related, but as we all know it is now pretty stable. Now you will probably want to give me a list of faults after the last upgrade, but don't worry, I've heard them all. I have a HD decoder running at my house and a demo at work. They have never given me major issues. I've been at quite a few problematic HD installations as well and, like I said before on this forum, a lot of the problems are installation related.

Does this mean DSTv will get rid of their extra view s..t
UEC have always produced good practical products as is evidence by their SD PVR... and more importantly its local.

From the 2 HD PVR models on the UEC site, I could not determine whether it will be dual view with one recording channel or the mess we have with the current HD decoder and extraview hundreds of cables and heartbeat wait issues.

No dual view ever again. Forget about dual view. Just move on.
