New HD PVR

thats correct, only 1 viewing channel and recording of up to 2 channels at the same time

but in future you'll be able to link it to your dual view or 1110 decoder to have more viewing channels.

Tsk, :p it can now be used with a dual view decoder to view 3 channels at once. For two channels you conect it to the new version decoders with heartbeat link

Thus NO step backward! LOL.

I think multi choice is giving people too many "multi-choices" when it comes to DStv..... why so many decoders? it's not a PC FFS.

Heartbeat? what, is that supposed to sound cool when you explain it to the Jones's next door?

Forgive my ignorance but considering the fact that you will need like 2 seperate decoders to get dual view working, i consider that a step backwards.

So what... You have a HD PVR decoder AND a normal Dual view decoder (does the SD PVR decoder count?) and you link them up by, I assume, splitting the LNBs from the dish? Any reference for where I can find out how to do this?

So what, what??????????????, many of us have to go buy both now, the Xtraview function only works with the 1110 model, and i still have the 720...

Oh sure, a step back from what you have to HD resolution. A step back from recording two programs at once while viewing a third in HD or normal. A step back if you can now still connect a dual view and have three channels displaying and two channels recording all at the same time. No wondering which channel of Olympic sport to drop and which to view. Considering you can record two channels of the Olympics for later review while the Brood and brats can view their own channels.

Common consider as you please, not everyone is born the same and as such cannot identify progress even if it stares him in the face or just bemoans everything without considering the trade offs or wonder why they have done it in a specific way.

I see more gains than loss.

For one the current dual view in a single unit is a fsuckup as when the unit fails or reboot the other unit is down. maybe this will NOW be less of an issue. Also considering the second channel is a RF output the new solution is far better as one channel will be via HDMi or scart or component and the others channel also via scart or component that is major progress as opposed to the RF link to the second TV. Also that stupid remote control via the RF cable is void. So bemoan the loss of a single low quality output while I will rejoice the additional channel gained as well as the better quality. And if you still feel it is a step backward...well then be backward.

Search the forum for "switch" and you will find the solution where the same HD DSTV is discussed today in another thread

@Uno - I agree. The new setup will be much better. I already have the SD PVR, which when linked to the HDPVR will give me 3 viewing channels and 3 recording channels accessible from both viewing areas (or 3 different viewing areas).

If one decoder conks out, the other one will still work. To those who currently have a DSD 720, the new 1110 decoders cost R399 - X that by 2 and you have R800 odd for a dual view environment. The old Dual view decoders cost around R2000 and the PVR costs R2499. So I dont see what the issue is.
Consider also you can put the decoders in separate viewing areas which mean no more long RF links for the video feed - better quality via AV. (it only needs RF for the "heartbeat" thing).

The old dual view decoder will not be compatible with the Xtraview option. Only the 1110 and the SD PVR.

I will get one as soons as its available. You will need a smartcard swopout if your SC is older than April 2008 (free from Multichoice). The Xtraview option will be added to the SD PVR via an OTA upgrade at the end of the month.

Of course, everyone who upgrades to the HD PVR will need to upgrade their Dual-LNB to a Quad-LNB as well.
