Hi guys

I need to swap out my PS3's HDD, and I'm contemplating buying the Seagate Momentus Thin, which is slightly thinner than the normal drives.

Has anyone else used one of these on their PS3's?

Will it fit on the HDD tray?

That's what I've been looking for, but its strange that the "Thin" is cheaper and has a larger cache. Anyway, I've bought one, will install and post feedback on here.

What model, price and where from?

Sorry guys. Only saw these now.

As above, from Sybaritic. I did a price comparison at the time, and it was the cheapest 16Mb cache drive I found.

Should be fine but a 7200rpm or 750GB with 32Mb cache would have been my choice. I am considering of one of those 1TB specials on the externals and remove the drive for the PS3.

Normal HDD are fine
But since I went the 60GIG SSD rout
Gaming on my PS3 has been a dream
Way faster load times means way more game time

I was thinking of switching to a 320/500GB SSD... Loading times on a hacked console should be much, much better, but it is still a bit pricey right now

Hi. It seems to be the cheapest to me as well. How did it work out for you? Any issues?

Guys....you cant put a 3.5" hard drive IN a PS3.

You need a laptop drive such as the Seagate Momentus 750GB

Do you have a Phat PS3, Slim PS3 or super Slim PS3?

WTF, who said you can or wanted too? To add a 3.5" inch without using the slower USB link you can put a 3.5" drive in a external bay with an eSATA input and connect with an SATA extension cable back into the PS3 HD connector. That's been done and Google is your friend. You can do exactly the same with a 3.5" just lying loose (fugly) by using a SATA extension cable with power which is also available ;) Then to stick with internal drives a 12mm 1TB fits the phat and the slim when implementing minor DIY mods and again Google is your friend.

Some(most) of those 1TB drives are 12.5mm thick, which wont fit. You need to get a 9.5mm thick drive for a PS3.
It can be made to fit, DIY skills + Google + no warranty is your friend.

An SSD does not make as big of an improvement as you would expect.

I tried a 120Gb Agility 3 in my PS3 and played a couple games that i "Backed Up" on my PS3. I could not tell the difference.
But, just getting a good 7200RPM drive will make a difference vs the stock drive with some games load times. (Red Dead Redemption was the one i noticed the most)

Cool... Cos that's what I'm running now, a 500GB 7200rpm drive

Just watch those temps. Apparently a 7200rpm drive may cause excessive heat problems. Personally I doubt it.
