Unless they've jacked up the physical security protections drastically, I wouldn't touch it.

White Men rejoice!

Will it win a tug-of-war with an Amarok...?

Can't wait to see one in my rear view mirror on the highway trying to push me off the road

I've often wondered, why is the power/torque out of the Hilux so underwhelming vs competitors. The current 3L diesel is at best on par with several 2L diesel competitor offerings

Probably underboosting to up reliability of the engine? Less stressed = longer life.
Not an engineer, just my 2c.

Ford's new Ranger stole the bakkie market from Toyota. This new Hilux is pretty decent but I still prefer the Ranger personally.

The Ranger did not steal the market, it merely improved in leaps and bounds and people took notice. The problem with these bakkies are that they are getting to expensive for agricultural use. I see more and more farmers opting for Steeds, Boleros and Tatas.

This. Current Hilux looks shyte. Even the previous model looked better.

Then who are they marketed at?

Suburban mums and dads with a couple kids and fancy themselves as the outdoorsy types.
I actually really like double cabs, can see why they're so popular. They are very expensive, but which car isn't these days?
