New HP Pavilion HDD constantly busy

Hi there,

About a week ago I got a brand new HP Pavilion Laptop running Windows 8.1. All in all everything is perfect except for the fact that the hard drive seems to be working overtime.

The LED light is constantly on, and I've noticed that the activity measures 100% quite often. What could be the cause of this?

Disable indexing on the drive and see what happens.

i recall a friend's hp had some backup software included with the os installation

his was constantly busy - was endlessly wanting to back nothing (on the drive yet) up

There does not seem to be any kind of backup feature installed that I could find.

The process that's the culprit is normally either "System" or "svchost.exe". This is driving me insane!

Scan entire hard drive for delays. Boot from external source (USB/CD-ROM), i.e. Hiren's boot CD / Victoria for Windows.
