Hi All.

I'm sorry if this question has been answered in a previous thread, but I couldn't find anything. I was due for an upgrade on my 3g contract and went last week to fetch my new card. It is the latest HSDPA/3G vodafone card. I don't know if anyone knows the one I'm talking about, but it is half the size of the usual ones, has a PCMCIA adapter to make it fit into normal PCMCIA slots. Anyway, I got the card working without any problems while I was in RSA. However, as soon as I got to Ghana, it could not detedt any networks. I read in the manual that you need to go to view and click 'Available Network Connections'. But here's the problem, it is not selectable. I tried numerous things to get it activated but to no avail. The only thing that I could think of that is causing this is that I am using 32K sim card (the shop recommended I use the included 64K sim card). But it doesn't make sense because it worked fine in RSA. I did manage to find out that they were supposed to do a sim swap and activate the 64K, but that was not done.

Could anyone please help me cause I'm pulling out the remaining hair out of my head!

Sorry for the LETTER.

Cheers,

Francois.

Have you tried putting that same SIM Card into a cellphone and seeing if the cellphone is able to detect networks, also is the SIM Card enabled for International Roaming?

Maybe you can get a local pre-paid SIM Card and try that as well...

Thanks for the reply.

The sim card is definately enabled for roaming because it worked on my old card. Will te local pre paid card work in the vodafone modem?

The card form factor is called PCI-Express and is the new standard for laptop cards.

It is possible (but highly improbable) that the card is locked. We don't lock data cards but have seen one or two slip through. PM me the make, model, EMEI and serial numbers together with all your contact details and I'll check.

Are you sure data roaming is available where you are? As ic suggested, put the sim in a normal phone and see what it does.

The fact that there was going to be sim-swap makes me wonder if somehow half the process did not happen. Best t o call 155 and check with them.
