new imac, mini, ilife?

I really should fiddle with pages some day. It looks basic online, but haven't dug into it.

What about database apps like Access? And Mail needs some inprovements, IMHO.
I dont really have much call for database but unless I'm mistaken OO would get the job done - Office for Mac doesnt have a database app either come to think of it.

I love Mail.app :D

I keep hoping they'll release a mini with a decent graphics processor.

I really enjoy my mini - even if it is one of the first generation intel ones. :)

I would get a mini as a family/house computer, and horde the laptop to myself.

I remember you mentioning using your mini with tv to record or something like that. How does that work and what do you need to do that? Have you made an iTV out of the mini?

There's precious little worth recording here in SA so I've never bothered going that route with the mini. As easy as it would be to do I'm currently content with using it to store rips of my dvd collection (kids and dvds do not go together at all!) as well as series I have acquired. To that end I've got 2x 500gb firewire drives attached to it. :)

you must have a pile of computer stuff at your house from what I gather. :) Thanks.

I'll track your ip address somehow and the next time I'm in the EC I'll pay a little 'shopping' visit to your place. lol

oh wait, Telkom doesn't allow us to have static addresses. I guess you are safe. ;)

BTW - I've got some guinea fowl patroling my pad.

You're from Jersey - you sure they're not foul . . . nevermind ;)

I'm going to stop this american bantering here, before this section gets changed to Americans ragging on each others states instead of Mac.

Bath time for kid anyway, have a pleasant night all!

Hey - I lived in Hoboken. :p

Would have at least heard about it if you were into indie rock. Lots of bands played there.

Sort of like CBGB's (all the teeny bop girls wear those t-shirts lately).

Ok - having lived in the village I know CBGBs. :)

btt - ;)

I think the iMac looks really nice from a design point of view. The mini, Can't really think of anything to add to that design (Jon, got something?).

I just wonder what they update the casing for the iMac so often. It's like they are never happy from one year to the next. I would like to see a design that allows easier swooping of hardware (ie: graphics cards, hard-drives mostly).

Jon?

I think the mini is a perfect home computer. Not great for the heavy hitting pro apps but how many people actually need that sort of power at home? The iLife/iWork suites run just fine and that's probably all most will really want to run.

It even does the job of a Tv as well as, if not better than, the Tv itself. Now thats one device I cant get my head around.

Anyway, I encode a lot of dvds using mine and sure, it's a little slower than my mbp but I just queue a load up and let it do its thing in the background.

I'm glad it got a reprieve and they haven't discontinued it.

I'd love to get a mini but I honestly cannot justify getting one as I have no use for it... have a Macbook and a PC and for the TV I have a 400gig Lg recorder and a PVR so I cannot use it there either.

We ditched the pc in favour of the mini attached to the plasma - smaller footprint and when we need something windows we use bootcamp. Actually its the only mac we have here that has bootcamp and/or ||s. Best all-in-one solution imo.

Between that, the PVR and the 360 we're sorted :D
