I'm wanting to apply for ADSL at home and trying to find out the procedure and if costs are involved.

Is it best to apply online or in store? Do I apply for the landline and ADSL simultaneously or first apply for the landline and then for the ADSL line.

I don't want a contract thus want the month to month option as I'm not prepared to be tied down for 2 years.

I think I have some more questions but this is it for now. Hopefully by some miracle the install will happen within a week or two lol...

I'm in the same place, apparently the copper line installation costs R750 and then u can enable voice and adsl. I've heard of some ways to avoid paying the installation fee but the call centre agents disagree .

Most of us went the Telkom simple plan way which hed a free modem and line install but they dont exist anymore.
I'm not sure what the cheapest\best way is at the moment.

Hey bud.

Yeah I got some info today but just wanted confirmation from the Telkom rep here.

I was told that I should apply in store for the R206 package then voice line installation is free. As soon as install is done one can then contact the call centre and tell them you want to upgrade your line to an ADSL line which should not cost anything either. After about 2 or so months you can then change your landline option to the R189 package.

So yeah I'm just wanting to know more about this.

Also.... If I have existing lines in my home do they still charge for an installation then?

I actually don't mind the calling plan it will be handy for the wife. But the call centre insisted it had to be the 599 contract calling plan so I'm also hoping for some insight.

No responses from the rep.... any luck on your end?
Nah no luck yet...

I'll follow the advice given to me then which I hope is correct but yeah there shouldn't be any charge involved for installation then.

I just hope it doesn't take 2 months for the installation to be done.

This is the process I just followed to avoid installation the fee. Applied for voice line in-store and waited for technician to call me to arrange the "installation". Waited about 4 weeks without any response. Eventually PM'd the rep here and he managed to get an appointment sorted and arranged. Once the line was "installed" I went back in-store to order the adsl and do a self-install. It took about two days for Telkom to activate the adsl line and I was up and running. Still waiting for invoices from Telkom so can't confirm true costs but it should be as quoted above or there will be hell

They send a techie out even if you have an existing line in your home. In my case I had two jacks and the one which was working was on the wrong side of the house, so the guys had to do a bit of work to get the other one working. But so far so good!

Thanx @phool

I handed my application in yesterday but have not received an order number as yet. If I don't get one by tomorrow then I'm using my contacts to get **** sorted ASAP. ...

Well. ...

This is why i never wanted to get adsl at home.... The poor service one gets from Telkom.

Now i need Internet and am forced to do business with Telkom. Handed in application on Thursday last week. It's 4 days later and no order number has been sms'd to me as yet......

All my nightmares are materialising :/

You not the only one. I reckon these upcoming public holidays are not going to help us either.

I went in store on Wednesday night. Got an sms immediately with an order number but nothing since.
I was gonna say you are lucky bit seeing as they never contacted you afterward, I guess we in the same boat then

Not surprised it will take awhile as Telkom let go a lot of their technical staff. They are severely under-staffed.
