New installation...

Well. ...

This is why i never wanted to get adsl at home.... The poor service one gets from Telkom.

Now i need Internet and am forced to do business with Telkom. Handed in application on Thursday last week. It's 4 days later and no order number has been sms'd to me as yet......

All my nightmares are materialising :/
O the joys of dealing with Telkom. Did they confirm anything about the installation costs?

Well the assistant said there's no installation cost with the R206 option so I'll wait and see. If there is a charge then I'll throw my toys out the cot

I didn't pay any installation costs, but I did have to pay the R700 fee which I'm supposed to get back I think when I cancel or something like that.

R700 is the installation cost on the landline.

So you paid R700 (or you were charged ) upon having your installation completed? What exactly was this for if not for installation.....

I'm not 100% sure, but when I signed up, I was told no installation fees. However I had to pay this amount up front and this was before the line was installed. I would be surprised if it was installation fees. But then I didn't care as I just wanted the line to be installed so maybe I'm wrong. My invoice just says that the R700 will be paid back to me

I signed up for the R206 package....that apparently has no installation fees. However, if you sign up for Telkom to be your ISP you have to pay a fee for the router, etc...

I told them I have my own ISP/router already and paid nothing in store.

Tomorrow will be a week since appyling. Will phone on Thursday for an update or go in store.

What did you pay for your router?

I'm thinking of taking the Mweb special which is a 6 month contract. This i can live with instead of a 24 month contract.

Anyway I'm going to the Telkom store tomorrow to inquire as to what the stasis of my application is and why I've not received an order number as yet.

I bought an Asus router on a Takealot sale. Think it was R350 with a voucher.

Sooooooo.....

I just left the Telkom store now. My application was not captured. I don't know how long it would've been lying in their office had I not gone in there now.

So I had them capture the application while I waited right there. Left the store and received my order number 3 minutes later via sms.....

I really hate the fact that I have to do business with Telkom but yeah this is how it is I suppose.

Now for the wait for tech to come out and finish the instalation.

Finally received my appointment sms. Telkom due to visit anytime on Monday from 7h30 to 16h30.

Does anyone know if they give you a heads up before arriving or you just have someone home the whole day?

Funny you should post this. I received my sms as well and they'll be coming to install on this coming Tuesday.

So I'll wait and see if they gonna pitch.

I called the call centre and spoke to a very nice lady, who said I should apply for the weekender call plan that included free line installation and adsl modem. She said wait about 2 months and cancel the weekender plan, which I did. Never paid any install fees or for modem and it took only 2 days for the tech to come to my house and carryout the install. So Telkom did a great job for me in this case, only battling to find a descent ISP, Webafrica is no good poor support trying Afrihost next month

The router you got was on a contract I'm assuming. I need a router but will not all my soul for it. I despise being bound when I know from all the threads I've read that I'll get bad service.

Anyway, you were one of the lucky ones I guess. I'm patiently waiting for Tuesday to come and have my installation done.

As for ISP, give Crystal Web, Afrihost or Access a try. I was gonna go with Afrihost but have since changed my mind and opting for Axxess. Crystal Web is just a bit too pricey for me at this stage.

Rightooooooooo.....

Landline installation completed now. Ordered the ADSL so now the wait restarts. Apparently it can take 14 - 30 working days :/

I was hoping to get everything sorted and connected this week but Ai, wishful thinking I suppose

Thanks for the update.... can u suggest the breakdown of costs including deposits etc that u would incur for this installation

Well....

For the landline installation it is free of charge when applying for the R206 option (I don't know the package name). I was informed that when applying for the ADSL connection then it should also be free of charge especially with me doing my own set up at home. So all in all I was advised that I will not have any costs incurred with this installation, so I'll monitor my statement to check if what they said was true.

But yeah, to date I've not had to pay anything.

PS: You use the R206 package for 3 months then you can downgrade it to the R189 package but I think that this package you pay for your calls where as with the R206 package your calls are free after 19:00/20:00.

Why didn't you apply for adsl at the same time?

Guy came yesterday. It took him longer to write up the invoice then check the existing line. We moved in last month and previous owners had a Telkom line.

Phone and adsl up and running.

I'm trying not to fork out any fees for the installation and I was told that the way I'm going about it now is cost free.

If how you did it was cost free then I was ill informed then buy will know better should there be a next time....

You just have to state on application that its the self install option.

Suppose I'll know when the bill arrives.
