New Internet-connected DStv decoder planned

Will this new decoder also come with a reduction for my subscription since I am not using their infrastructure to deliver the service for me? I stick to downloading thank you. Lower subs.. thats what DSTV needs.

“if you have a fantastic Internet connection then you could have access to other content”
Well that rules the SA broadband community out then :\

Correct me if I'm wrong, all the HDPVR's have ethernet ports already.. why do we need a "new" decoder to get this wonderful new functionality???

she looks like my mother, jokes...

Don't think DSTV will ever get it right. Good concept tho'

Because the outer shell of the HDPVR has an Ethernet-shaped hole only - it isn't actually connected to anything internally. The same shell is used for more elaborate decoders internationally.

I'm sure they'll add on some extra subscription charges for this amazing new service  . Sorry multichoice but your services will never come close to SAB+Sickbeard+Couchpotato.

“A fantastic connection is the one that lets you watch high quality content streamed seamlessly.”

That rules out just about everyone.

Head of multichoice CONTENT doesn't know what a good internet connection is needed for steaming their content... ****ing unbelievable...

No wonder SA is so slow on the "netflix" type services

i think dtt decoders are gona be internet enabled, correct me if im wrong.

Ummm, as far as I know it is connected, its just disabled by the MC software... since of course, its New Age technology, so they don't know how to use it.

One possibility with "connected" decoders is web based programming of recordings, as well as smart recommendations based on your viewing history. These are low bandwidth uses, but offer a much improved user experience. All they need to do is add a wi-fi radio to the current PVR.
