New Internet tool for Africa

Interesting concept although I'm not sure that its too novel. The CDNs have been doing this kind of analysis for years.

The article is rubbish though...
22% of traffic originated from SAIX, the local IXP and this inevitably doesn’t tell you the provider
:wtf: No, SAIX is not an Internet exchange point. They are a service provider and traffic originating on their network is from their customers.

Again with Kenya, the picture is more complex. There appears to be no traffic for the local IXP, KIXP.
:wtf: Again... NO. Traffic doesn't come from an IXP, there are no users connected to an IXP. The users traffic flows through the IXP via the interconnected providers.

Most of the data seems to be of little use though. They are only evaluating internationally hosted content and the results are pretty awful compared to anything hosted on local servers.

This is nothing new...

Been doing this for absolute ages, and the CDNs rely on this type of info which is readily available from AfriNic, RIPE, ARIN... etc etc.. GeoIP services are nothing new and nothing special anymore. They're also quite alot of guess work when it comes to places like Africa in general.
