iPad 3 pre-orders delayed

People pre-ordering Apple Inc’s new iPad to avoid the release-day crowds at the company’s retail stores will have to wait longer to get their hands on the devices.

Really? :wtf:
They know that their products always ship like hotcakes.
How can you not have enough stock on hand to supply?

Also - How long has the pre-orders been available?
They should've known well in advance that they wouldn't have enough to supply both online orders and their Brick 'n Mortar stores.
So this announcement could've been made along time ago, but the fallout would've been bad PR...say a month ago?

Coming off of a Q4 in December with record sales, this should've been anticipated and planned for.
Poor form new CEO

The riots will ensue :p

True but it depends what numbers we're really talking about. Not only do they have the pre-orders to deal with but then they've got to make sure they have adequate supplies in the stores . . . in 10 countries.

Since the day it was announced.

Ergo my earlier comment wrt to them knowing well in advance what was going on.
They should've put pressure on their suppliers to get in line and step up production.

Anyway, not like its going to hurt sales.

Just going to get a lot of people rather annoyed when they see updates & tweets from friends and colleagues with their new iPad :D

TBH I think the first inkling they had about the demand for the iPad was when their servers couldn't handle the traffic coming their way. It would be interesting to know how many they had stockpiled.

When you take into account how long it actually takes to completely assemble an iPad it's not surprising that they can't meet initial demand.

It seems Apple are going to open a few eyes with this one.
