From what i have read so far from a Linux mag concerning jailbreaking an iphone, is that by doing so you void the warranty and you wont be able to download legal apps using itunes.

In return you can access the command line on an iphone and type in chmod :) To access files outside of the root directory. Apparently there are a lot of apps for jailbroken iphones.

My gripe with this is that the iphone is soo expensive, why would one want to screw themselves over by jailbreaking it? This is only aimed at those who dont program.

An alternative solution would be to buy the 2G iphone and jailbreak it. Then why would one want 2 iphones? One jailbroken and the other not because your only going to use one iphone? Right?

I'd forget what that magazine says.

While not 100% sure about the warranty I am certain you can still download apps from the iTS .

Its actually a painless procedure and easy to reverse if you decide it's not for you.

1 - This http://www.apple.com/iphone/compare-iphones/
2 - Vodacom . . . or overseas but then you wont have a local warranty
3 - dunno
4 - It means you can install non apple sanctioned applications.
5 - No.

See the post above.

It depends. There are alot of phones on bid or buy and gumtree. Just make sure its all above board when you buy one, otherwise you might get screwed. You could also buy a new official one from a cellular dealer.

3. Where is the cheapest place i can find one ?
See above

4. What will it mean to jailbreak my iphone ? (not worried about warrenty). - It just means you install a modded Firmware onto your phone that allowes more funtionality. It won't void your warranty because if you had issues you could just restore the original fw and send it back. They wouldn't know any better. It also does not affect your Itunes usage.

And Last but not least

5. Have u guys had any problems in south Africa with the apple app store ?

Jailbreaking is cool man - anyone who doesnt Jailbreak there iPhone should stick with Nokia ***..

My iPhone had a hardware issue and was jailbroken - the phone was replaced without any hassles.. Apple knows people jailbreak there phones.. so there is no restrictions on iTunes.. you can download legit apps using a jailbroken iPhone.. and ofc the cracked apps not from iTunes.. :)

I would recommend the 3GS. It's got double the RAM, so you can multitask much better (open more webpages etc), it can record video, and is much faster.

The 3G is still great, if you can find it cheap go for it.

I'm rocking a 2G, it's awesome, especially if you have access to Wi-Fi
