New ISP decisions....

Generally a mikrotik that is locked and any time you want a change to be made you need to log a support ticket or sign a form that says you have access but should you need support regarding the router they won't help you type of deal
Don't forget once you leave Vox they want the router back.

I'm using the afrihost huawei ax3 router.
It has exceeded my expectations.
Even on the 5GHz band (higher frequency lower range) it provides coverage to where my previous Tenda N300 was unable to.
It is consistently able to provide 25/25 speed package that I'm on.
Chromecast works great too.

Thats majority of ISP's though, WebAfrica are asking my sister for her 5 year old ADSL router back now which they never even gave her xD
That's definitely not most ISPs, I have at least 3 different routers from 3 different ISPs lying around.

Some ISPs will say you have to stay with them for 6 months or whatever X amount of time to be able to keep the router but before I heard Vox does it and now Webafrica I've never heard of an ISP asking for a router back.

I'm put off if Vox only supply a locked down router, that Huawei ax3 looks decent.

Mind the speed is the cheapest 50/50 on vumatel. No issues except around the time vumatel decrease their prices, but after that, they have been solid. Before signing up, first read the threads relating to the ISP here on MyBb, ask questions on the thread and get honest feedback.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for hijacking this thread. I am a bit unsure of which ISP to go with for my new home. I had these options in mind: WebAfrica, MWEB, RSAWeb, Afrihost. Skimming through the threads here, I found that WebAfrica and MWEB do not have good support and Afrihost is much better. Only thing putting me off is their installation fee - all other ISPs currently do not charge for an installation fee but Afrihost does. Is it really worth paying the R1400+ in installation fee?

STAY AWAY FROM WEBAFRICA. They are useless beyond belief. I regret signing up with them.

In RSA you would normally pick the least worst from the worst. However, that said I would imagine that Cool Ideas is at least neutral to good and you may consider them. Web Africa just isn't what it used to be and even then it wasn't always good. I suppose there is always WebSquad which seems to be the new favorite for a while now.

I believe cool Ideas offer 12 month "contract" then they will cover installation fee , if for some reason you cancel early you only liable for a portion of the installation fee , eg after 6 months you pay 50%

I'm sure fiber don't just arrive for free at your doorstep without someone footing bill and recuperating it. Do ISPS still foot the bill without a contract these days or some form of claw-back? Back when I got mine it was part of a "promotion" and I am not sure who paid who.

RocketNet and WebSquad are both solid options imo.

Had a few issues with WebSquad but one of those issues would only affect you if you're on a gigabit package. For the most part they went out of their way to help.

Rocketnet is not really an ISP that comes up too much here but I had a very pleasant experience during my time with them.
I would have signed up with them at one point, but they did not return my communication. Only after signing up for MTS, did I see their email in the junk folder of my email provider.

But should I need to change ISP, they definitely a consideration.

Afrihost has by far the most reasonable cancellation policies. A lot of ISPs require you to give a full calendar month's notice to cancel, but Afrihost allows you to cancel in the same month that you want to cancel. E.g. you can cancel on 5th of the month for your cancellation to come into effect at the end of the same month.

Thanks folks. I looked at webSquad and their pricing is quite similar to Afrihost, although the latter has been recommended by more people on this forum.

RSAWeb is does not charge any installation fee for my area. Has anyone here had an experience with them?

Have them as our work ISP for a business line and really can't recommend them useless business support and when business is bad you know normal is worse...

Been using BUZYBUY for 7 years, first on LTE then 3 years ago fibre
Prices a little high
50/50 for R949

What has deteriorated in the past year is the long time taken to reply to Tickets. Usually between 1 and 2 months, but one has been open since October

What really annoyed me is a fibre service they supply for a CCTV monitoring installation I helped get working (the original installer died). This worked very well for 4 months, then slowed down to about 10%. Their network engineer came along in December and said their side was ok. No improvement

I got another Buzybuy engineer along 2 weeks back. He fiddled for 60 mins and said the speed is far too slow and suggested an upgrade to a R1100/month package. I forwarded this suggestion to the trustees who were not pleased

One of BC trustees said this was nonsense and got along another CCTV fellow. He made some adjustments and all the cameras display 100%

This trustee tasked with technical matters told me that henceforth they would use this other CCTV fellow as my ideas were nonsense and not to be trusted

Buzybuy are not interested

Thinking of Cool Ideas now and wonder how much of a mission it is to change ISPs.
