New Jeep EVs

Jeep launches new marketing campaign for Avenger

Jeep Avenger is preparing for first deliveries and since this is Jeep’s first all-electric car, the company is really taking the marketing of the SUV seriously. Stellantis announced the Jeep is starting a TV marketing campaign called “Built for the Real World” and it will first air in Spain today, in a few days it’ll go on Italian TV and eventually will be rolled out across Europe as the Avenger makes its way to all the markets. Here’s the ad:

In the accompanying press release, Stellantis (who owns Jeep among many other brands) goes to extensive lengths to put as much meaning as possible into the short video. The advert apparently underlines the transition from the virtual to the real world and manages to highlight Jeep’s values - freedom and adventure. Right. All that in 30 seconds of flashing images.

Marketing campaign apart - the Jeep Avenger itself is quite an interesting car. At just 4.01 meters in length, it is 27cm shorter than the Smart #1 which already is compact. In fact, it is 15cm shorter than the Opel Mokka Electric with which it shares a long list of components.

Jeep targets UK growth as boss admits firm "screwed up twice"

Christian Meunier believes EVs are key to UK success after warmly received Avenger

Jeep is looking to turn around its fortunes in the UK – a market that “we screwed up twice”, boss Christian Meunier has admitted to Autocar – with a significant push into electrification.

The American company has identified EVs, including the warmly received Jeep Avenger, as the key to making significant inroads in Britain – where it currently holds a “virtually non-existent” 0.3% stake of the SUV market.

Here, in a candid interview, the Frenchman speaks about a new future for Jeep in Europe, its image and the enthusiast strength of the UK market.

What does electrification mean for Jeep capability?

“For me, there’s nothing more exciting than driving electric in a 4x4, and the reason is torque on demand, the one-pedal feel and the brake regen. You accelerate and brake with the same pedal, and that means that you can get the torque that you need. It’s extremely precise, very accurate, very soft, very smooth. And at the same time it’s silent, so you can hear the birds. The only thing you basically hear is the tyre on the rocks, which is pretty exciting stuff, right?”

Petrol Jeep Avenger to arrive in UK from £27,000; hybrid to follow

Jeep will still focus on the EV but said a combustion variant, arriving early next year, will help fulfil customer wishes

Petrol versions of the Jeep Avenger will be sold in the UK from £27,000 from early next year, solely with a manual gearbox.

Arriving in very limited quantities (just 600 are currently on order), they will also be joined by a mild-hybrid powertrain variant, Jeep’s UK product boss Paul Rush has confirmed to Autocar.

The petrol Avenger was previously earmarked for sale in only Italy, Poland and Spain, due to their respective markets’ lack of substantial EV infrastructure. But following an outpouring of enquiries to UK dealers, it will now also be sold here.

Jeep said the petrol variant would help to fulfil the desires of its consumers. Some 80% of its sales are of pure-ICE vehicles.

“They [European bosses] asked us to take some. It was a no-brainer to say yes,” said Rush.

Asked if more could come, Rush said it was unlikely to be more than “a couple thousand” in total.

Jeep Recon go-anywhere SUV with nearly 600 hp coming in 2025

Jeep, the American maker synonymous with off-roading is preparing its next big launch. Enter the Jeep Recon – an electric behemoth set to launch in Europe in 2025, rivaling the Land Rover Defender.

And when we say "rivaling," we mean it. With an impressive near-600 hp output, the Recon isn't just a pretty face in the electric world. It promises a range of approximately 600 km, ensuring you can wander deep in the wild.

The Recon is going to be the electric cousin you never knew the iconic Jeep Wrangler had. The Recon shares its underpinnings with the Jeep Wagoneer S, which is also slated for a 2025 debut. With the addition of the Recon and the Wagoneer S, along with the already unveiled compact Jeep Avenger, Jeep's EV portfolio will start to take shape.

Amysterious fourth EV is described by CEO Christian Meunier as a glimpse into Jeep's future. From the teaser images, it seems like this vehicle will be catering to the more budget-friendly audience.

Jeep Avenger review

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?

“A car designed to work reasonably well on moderate off-road trails ends up working really well in its precise opposite”

Well, who'da thunk it? Jeep has built an excellent city car. Like any decent EV the powertrain is silent and smooth, and it qualifies for various cheap parking and congestion-zone incentives. It's small and manoeuvrable and the boxy outline helps you judge the corners. The bash-resistant exterior and speedbump-happy suspension calm your nerves.

That's not all, mind. It has OK range and quick-enough rapid charging, so its long-distance compass is perfectly tolerable. The cruising manners are fine, and it’s even fairly chuckable in corners. Thank the small size and long-travel suspension.

So enjoy the irony. A car designed to work reasonably well on moderate off-road trails, ends up working really well in its precise opposite. Not, of course, that Jeep didn't know that all along.

Verdict

The brand new Jeep Avenger is a fantastic city-oriented SUV, that happens to have some off-roading capabilities. It is a solid daily commuter that doesn't have major dealbreakers, but also no particular stand-out performances. A city specialist with a stand-out design is what Jeep seemingly set off to achieve and it has pulled it off.

The Jeep Avenger feels best as a daily commuter, delivering a smooth ride over potholes, squeezing in tight parking spaces and turning on a penny. You can then perhaps take your kids to a picnic on the weekend. And it's not looking bland in traffic like most SUVs these days.

Still, we'd disagree that the Avenger is really the “Car of the Year”. Its highway performance is just too compromised to be a an outright recommendation for everyone. But for the right kind of driver the Avenger is truly the best out there at the moment.

Pros

Great ride quality.
Recognizable styling.
High ground clearance.
Excellent maneuverability.
Highly customizable gauge cluster.
Flat-folding rear seats.
Notable changes between the different drive modes.

Cons

Interior material feel cheap.
The back seats offer almost no legroom.
Small trunk, no frunk.
No one-pedal driving.
You cannot hear the blinkers when listening to music.
