New laptop, pls advise?

I need to get a laptop, with a budget of approx R 15 000. I saw this one at laptop direct, what do you guys think, worth the money, or not?

I°m going to use it mainly for work, Pastel evolution, spreadsheets etc, and the occasional Photoshop. I know that is maybe a overkill for what its going to be used for, but I don't like buying this stuff every other year, so this will be a long time investment for me. My requirements will be;
Larger than 15.6 screen
At least 1 tb HDD,
Reasonable graphics and sound
DVD writer or better
Bluetooth not a must
Webcam
WiFi
I'm very much into the dell, because of the 3 year next day onsite warantee.

Pls guide me in a better direction, if this is not the way to go.

Will you be running a stand alone of Pastel Evolution, i.e. will you be installing SQL on the laptop as well?

I can't really comment on Photoshop, but otherwise Pastel Evolution will work fine. If you did install SQL it would also still be ok, but SQL likes to chow memory and would slow it down.

Excel will also be fine - depending on the size of your spreadsheets. If you work with humongous ones like I do it will struggle a bit, but normal Excel which normal people use will be be ok. ;)

In general that is basically one of the better specced laptops I've seen with a history of clients that had Evo and Excel and they got by with less. But I like performance and that looks pretty sweet. :)

I bought an acer laptop with similar specs for my finance manager (mainly uses excel , pastel evo workstation , partner etc).Laptop runs like a dream.I know finance people dont like change , so its better to over spec then under spec .Saves you from having to reload all your god dam programs every 3 years

And can you remember the price maybe?
 
R13 000 with 3 year onsite warranty.Bought it through my 3rd party IT company.If you want i can give you the exact model number ?

Dell has a better rep , although honestly they are pretty much all the same.Cant say ive noticed much of a difference between the dell , acer , lenovo etc.

I have seen enough people have issues with Acer and their attitude to support leaves a lot to be desired. If you could afford it I would always recommend a Lenovo Thinkpad 1st. But Dell business machines also have a good rep in general.
 
I dont know why everyone thinks Photoshop needs a supercomputer for it to function

All it needs is a lot of RAM really. It depends on how many layers you are having.
More layers = More RAM (or VRAM), and more processing power required.
 
I have the 5470. i5, 8gb, 740m, 256gb SSD.
Absolutely no issues with Photoshop (although i don't do anything hectic) and use that + TV when attending LANs.

I don't think you would have any issues with the 5749 and Dell is definitely the way to go!
