Except your Acer is under R13k and the Dell is under R10k.

Granted you are getting a webcam, larger hard drive and a better graphics card. So it all depends on whether you have R13k or R10k to spend.
 
Kk, i'm interested in the best graphics wise aswell, sold my Desktop which had a 7800GTX so anything better than that will do...

the one i saw (same model) had 1.5Ghz GPU and 120GB HDD

Most IT personnel won't touch Vista with a barge pole, and this includes myself.

You won't be able to downgrade from Vista home basic to XP Pro. Best is to insists on an XP Pro licence when buying the laptop. If they say they can't help you, tell them that you will take your business elsewhere.

Also, be aware that some laptop/notebook manufacturers won't have XP drivers for the Vista'd laptop - so it is in your best interest to check out whether the laptop have XP drivers available.

Otherwise you'd be stuck with a laptop that can only run Vista and nothing else.

LoL, yep thats my problem buying a laptop thats VISTA ready but not XP, feels to me like this is a bad time to buy a laptop, cause XP is getting old and VISTA, well everyone says it has lots of problems.

Do you actually think they will stop making XP drivers for some Laptop in the next year?
 
I have similar feelings about Dell, but not from any real experiences. However, they are launching the XPS line over here and that could make me change my mind.
Still not sure that an Apple dual booting windows is not a better answer though.
 
Dell Vostro 1700, but be careful ordering with dell, they may provide good laptops, at low prices, but are kinda, em.. DELAYED most of the time, IMOPE

Im guessing its your personal experience. My Dell D620 is by far the best laptop I have ever had.
 
I take it you still haven't bought one yet ... If I were you, go for that Acer Aspire from Incredible Corruption ... its a good price ... if you don't want that ... then I you have the prices of other laptops from my side
 
I have been very happy with my dell D820 with the Nvida Quadro 120 graphics. Nice wide screen. Whatever you do spend the extra money and get 2GB RAM. Often if you want to upgrade your RAM at a later stage you have to bin at least half of it because they filled all your slots with small denominations (i.e 2x512).

On the vista topic. My notebook came with Vista. I hated it at first, but after sorting out my issues with it I actually like it. If I work on a XP machine now it just looks old. The other thing is I will be using this notebook for at least 3 years. In 3 years time XP will be almost 10 years old. Who wants to be using an OS that old? Good news for the XP lovers though is that MS has agreed to supply XP to system builders for about another year. So HP, Dell etc. will still ship XP on certain notebooks (or all of them depending on how they feel).

If you want a notebook to play games on then 12K is probably not going to get you a desktop equivalent gaming machine. Go drool over some of the alienware babies :)

Oh and I do recommend Dell. 2 reasons: Next day onsite warranty (I have used it when my DVDRW broke and my boss had his screen replaced, it rocks). Second reason: Dell Multicover. You can buy 3 years accidental and theft coverage from Dell for a fraction of what it will cost to insure it yourself. Go call your insurance company and find out what it costs to insure a 12K notebook, you'll be shocked. :eek:

With Dell it helps to call when you know what you want to order. Often they will give you a better price than what is online, you can sometimes even just ask and they will give you discount.
