Good day
I noticed that the FNB website changed when I logged onto the site yesterday. Social media was flooded regarding the site, such as Twitter and Facebook. I'm not sure whether anyone reads these mails or not, but there are just some changes that are not appealing in comparison to other banking websites such as standard bank.
Listed below are my thoughts of the launch:
1. The most important feature on the website is the login. It's not even noticeable when you get to the website. It's a tiny button on the top right hand corner. I assume that at least 75% of individuals use the site for banking. So it needs to be bold and something that the user notices first when they see the homepage. That's something that needed consideration when designing the new website.
2. Before, the website was crowded by words and made it really difficult for the user to navigate. At present the words that were now changed to icons are tiny. I didn't make the website easier for the user. There is just so much of space on a white background and a few tiny icons. The size and use of space on the page matters.
3. When logged in, the icon that directs you to your accounts, looks terrible. There really is no other polite way of saying it. For eg. The area on the right hand of each account has three icons, such as statements. It is a word that is in black and covered by a black outline. It looks untidy and incomplete. As though you are in the process of updating the feature. It needed to be shaded so that when the user is online they are aware that it is a feature that leads to more detailed information which is required.
4. Does the bank commission any research such as focus groups or questionnaires. I would highly recommend it before making huge decisions. It's not what the banking team thinks. What matters is that it needs to work for me, the user. And I am disappointed to say the least.
5. I am sure that some thoughts of the user would be taken into account when making the changes at a later stage. I would highly recommend that changes are made. The only thing that I found more convenient was mobile banking which I use frequently on my phone. So, well done on that.
