Ford and Mazda have split.
Sure they've split but what has become of Mazda? I'm in a small town so I don't know what's happening in the cities but here there are no Mazda dealerships and because of the split Ford doesn't hold them on the lot anymore... is this also the case in the bigger cities?
Sales person at the Ford dealership asked me: "Why would you wanna look at a Mazda anyway get a Kuga it's better." I just smiled and said: "Well Mazda is more reliable, how many do you have in the workshop today?" To which he replied: "Now that I think of it, none we rarely see them other than for services" So I just smiled and left... In my old Mazda which I decided to keep until it dies.

This. Looked at the back and thought for a second they had a picture of the Mito there.
I really like the new 2. It is close to the original concept car. It has a mean look and a gorgeous interior for an entry level car.
Probably Mazda is in a relaunch phase, as they are going to setup their own dealerships. So in the interim they will have disappeared until the new dealerships open.

Local prices announced....not too bad actually. Generally high spec levels.

It's not that insane relatively speaking bud; its said to be a very clever & efficient vehicle with a good amount of tech at even base level.
I recon the R200k model is the best value; it even incl the smart 7" infotainment screen as standard.
B-segment car so its biggest rivals are Polo/Fiesta/Corsa/i20/Rio/Clio/208/Yaris etc.
Not sure why you mention the Auris; that's "Golf-class"

I just bought one for my wife 
She had the old model and wanted the new one. She drove a Fiesta, Rio and the Mazda. Chose the Mazda.
The interior did it for me, really modern, especially the dash
