New Mazda 2

Cool man; congrats. Which model did you settle on?

Post some pics of the newbie :)

Metropolitan Gray 1.5 Active, the entry level. Doesn't come with an alarm, but they are fitting an approved one for me. Haven't got it yet, when I do will post. Apparently early next week.

This is such a great looking car, pity the 1.5 diesel is priced at R260k :wtf:

"Mazda 2 Red Edition launched as Ford Fiesta White rival

The Mazda 2 Red Edition is a new, limited-run version of Mazda’s smallest model that will be available to order from 1 September.

The Red Edition, which is based on the 89bhp SE-L Nav, offers styling adjustments both inside and out for an extra £500 over the base model, which starts at £14,995. Only 400 Red Editions will be built.

Contrary to its name, the Red Edition only comes in Snowflake White Pearlescent or Black Mica paint, with Soul Red accents on the rear spoiler and lower bumper.

Buyers can add optional Dark Gunmental 15in alloy wheel for an additional £300.

Inside there are red cloth seats, red centre console parts and red door trim inserts, as well as white and red accents across the dashboard.

Under the bonnet there are no changes from the base model, so the Red Edition gets the same 89bhp Skyactiv-G petrol engine.

The regular Mazda 2 rivals the Ford Fiesta, so the 2 Red Edition is a natural rival to Fiesta White and Black Editions, which also build on the entry-level Fiesta by adding more standard kit."

The Mazda 2 range locally is actually the best value around compared to it's rivals. Seems more expensive in Europe.

Nope. Corsa 1.0T costs less, has more power and plenty more torque, lower fuel consumption, ESP across the range, 6 airbags... the list goes on.

Would choose the Mazda 2 over the Corsa any day of the week but because of the airbags, mazda has 2, Corsa has lots I'd get the Corsa

I have always liked the style that Mazda cars has. All the way from the 2 to the CX-7. But they do skimp on safety and their engines, despite wearing the SkyActiv badge, has always been under powered and thirsty. Corsa is a more well rounded option for less money, and it's German.

But it's a Corsa. :D

The mid-tier models are priced the same as the Mazda's and imo the Corsa doesn't look anywhere near as good. Also seems the more powerful engine doesn't quite deliver what it should in real world driving:

It’s got such a phenomenal powerplant that runs the Fiesta close in terms of power and economy but in real-world driving it fails to deliver the performance you’d expect. The interior is a massive step up over its predecessor and the list of standard equipment is very high but at R236 300 it’s by far the most expensive hatch in this quartet.

Does the corsa have Android Auto yet? Mazda doesn't... yet. Suppose neither might ever get it.

I can agree with you on all those points except the Skyactiv being thirsty. Got 6.1L/100 BELIEVE THAT MY FRIEND on the highway going 120 with cruise control over an entire trip with a CX-5 and i'm not the most "economical" driver out there.

They used to be thirsty I know, had them. Also not under powered anymore as skyactiv upped the power as a bonus.

Mazda is known for being one of the most accurate in their fuel consumption claims.
