New Mazda 2

Dude, you're gonna have to trek around 5000km(thumbsuck) a month to save on fuel enough to justify getting the diesel :D :D
With the petrol engine getting such good fuel consumption I wonder what the actual readings are for the diesel ??

Dunno why they don't stick the 2.0l from the CX-3 into the top of range 2, that would at least mean you're getting a bit more bang for your buck.

Mazda2 goes upmarket with new flagship model

Mazda has extended its Mazda2 model line-up with seventh derivative, the Mazda2 Individual Plus 1.5L Auto, that brings a number of new features to the range, which are also available on the Hazumi 1.5 turbodiesel.

But they come at a cost: While the prices of the rest of the range have risen by an average of less than 2.2 percent, the new Individual Plus is a whopping R42 900 more expensive than the previous top petrol model, and the price of the Hazumi diesel has gone up by R33 900, or 11.4 percent.

So what do you get for all that extra cash? Quite a lot, actually.

The two top Mazda variants now boast full leather seats, a head up display for current speed, next turn directions from the satellite navigation and safety alerts, rear parking sensors, a shark fin antenna, lane departure warning, and side and curtain airbags, while the Hazumi now also has blind spot monitoring.

But wait, there’s more: All Mazda2 derivatives except the base Active model now have LED fog-lights and cruise control, and the automatics now come with paddle shifters.

Still the same are the petrol models’ 1.5 litres, 82kW and 145Nm, and the 77kW and 250Nm outputs of the 1.5 turbodiesel four, as well as the three-year, unlimited distance warranty and three-year service plan across the range.

We get 4.8l/100km in town and 3.2l/100km on the highway. It is such a nice car to drive though. More power than you will ever need. Price has gone up waaaayyyy too much now though. Bought ours when they were R259 000.

A 240k car with only 2 airbags and no esp . Good luck in a side collision. And cars.co.za thinks this is award winning material! Most of its competitors like Yaris, Corsa etc have 4+ airbags and esp at this price point. Ride and comfort is great on this car though but the low airbag count and no esp is unforgivable.

Yeah, I have to agree with XPD. The Mazda 2 looks good but the Corsa is a way better car, one that is far too often overlooked.

On par. Def not better.
No, way ahead. Even better than the Polo. Class leading if we are being honest.

Corsa Essentia R200600
Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
Hill Start Assist
6 Airbags - D+P+S+C

Mazda 2 R215,100
No ESP
No Hill Start
2 Airbags

I didn't know that. Really like the look of the car but even our little first generation pre facelift up has 4 airbags. That is quite an omission.

Mazda always does good in the looks department, often skimming on the specs and engine efficiency.
