Here follows an excerpt of the released Mustek statement regarding the above:

Mustek launced its new Mecer Xpression 2010 range of notebook today....

The range of notebooks features the recently-released Intel Calpella mobile procession platform running versions of Arrandale and Clarksfield Core i3, Core i5 and core i7 processors.

Mustek is one of the first local assemblers to make a range of notebooks available with the new Intel Core i mobile procession technology.

The launch will be supported by an intensive advertizing campaign in Daily Newspapers and on Mnet TV from 22 January until the end of March 2010

To view the the Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 Notebooks.

Pretty cool I've seen the advertising on Mnet

Seeing that Im doing my second year in software development I need to get me a notebook for this year.
I've searched around for good performance notebooks (no more than R7000), but can't seem to find one that fits my taste.

Would the Core i3 be good enough?

What is the screen resolution. I must have 1680 x 1050 or better?

Nope this is not for gaming, he's a university student, he need it for software development :)

Pretty much so, but can the i5 handle such games?
I see it has a ATi Radeon 4570 graphics card with 512MB....and a decent i5-430M(2.27GHz) processor.

Do you perhaps have any images of the notebook before I make my final decision..looks count as well.

Thanks for the link

The Mecer Xpression Core i5 Specs looks tempting, but it doesnt look that great.
I really would like to purchase it but I need your opinion or would it be worth purchasing?..if not are there any other brands with basically similar specs.

Thanks

Of course it would be worth purchasing :)

Remember, currently there's no other offering in SA in this range, at least not at this price.

Haha! Core i7 laptop? Staggering performance for the 20min that the battery lasts...

Give me an i7 laptop anyday and I will never complain about battery life. Horses for courses, and all that.

Hi All,

The images on our website for the core i5 and - i7 is updated.

Must say, it's really an impressive look.

The specs were also updated.

Cheers

Does anyone know the performance difference of the i3 compared to the usual T series 2.2ghz core 2 duos?

How is the build quality of these laptops? The same as the fujitsu or better?

Mecer build quality sucks IMO. At a previous job we all had Mecer laptops, the lock device that holds the screen down when closed broke on 3 out of 5, and they all felt flimsy to me. Like the keyboard can easily be pressed in. Also, most annoying thing was that the screen would not go back far enough. It went to around 95 degrees from horizontal, whereas just about every other laptop I know of the screen can go 135+ degrees. I'm tall and wanted some sort of laptop stand so the screen is at a better height, but couldnt because of this. Hopefully they have changed that by now
