New Mecer Xpression 2010 Notebook Range.

One thing that stand out for me is the after-sales support for these Mecer laptops..

What I like about Mustek, is that should anything go wrong with a product, one can simply hand it in at any of their workshops.

No need for an invoice, the barcode is being scanned in and from there they get all the details.

We had a case where one of our clients, who purchased a laptop from us a couple of months ago, experienced some difficulty with his laptop, inasmuch that it acted up a bit strange.

He resided in Midrand and we're in CT.

There was no need for him to send the laptop back to CT, he simply handed it in at the workshop in Midrand

He was contacted by the technical staff once his laptop was ready and today he's still a very proud owner of a Mecer laptop. He didn't have to wait so long either to get his laptop back.

It's very assuring, that not only is one purchasing a good laptop, but are rest assured of top notch after-sales support as well.

Soooooooo... for anyone wanting some feedback on the 15-incher:

Just got a new work laptop (my Pavilion's left hinge finally gave its final crack and I urgently needed something sub-8k :( ) and I'm still busy setting up all my software on it.

Build quality seems decent off the mark. Not flashy or pretty in any sense, but functional. Lack of glossy surfaces bodes well for sweaty hands and fingerprints. Nice feature that you don't often get on a sub-17" laptop is the full QWERTY keyboard (including numeric pad). Also like the fingerprint scanner and built-in 3G modem.

Spec-wise, not much can beat it in the sub-8k market. You get Intel Core i5, 2GB RAM (I up-specced it to 4GB), 320GB HDD and dedicated graphics courtesy of ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 (512MB dedicated memory). The screen is a bit of a let-down, considering I've been working on a 1400x900 res 17-incher the last 3 years. I'm now forced to go 1366x768 on 15.6-incher. External monitor is probably always an option... :p

Basically, for under R8000 you'll struggle to find a better specced laptop.

Ok so now i was all for going to buy the Acer Aspire 5738PG (touchscreen) as it is on special at the moment when I happened upon the mecer advert in the paper and then googled and found this thread ...

Which one would you suggest is the better option? I know the Acer has 4GB RAM and a 500GB hard drive but am not sure if I can upgrade it as much as I can the Mecer i5 which is 320GB (upgradeable to 500GB) and 2GB Ram (upgradeable to 4GB) and upgradeable overall to i7.

I'm a Graphic Designer and my budget doesnt allow for a mac before any of you siggest I look there ;)

Please ... your input is and will be greatly appreciated as I'm looking to purchase a laptop yesterday:-D
