I got a call from my friend during day telling me that they were launching a Merc A class at Melrose today. He saw an A 200 and he was very impressed and excited about what he saw. Any idea when are they going to be available at dealerships? I can't wait to see this baby. He says its nicer in metal and pictures don't do justice to this car. I can see that beauty on photos it must be really beautiful in live. I think this car is going to give a 1 Series and A3 a run for their money.

not likely

It's a chunk cheaper than BMW. I'm seriously considering this thing. Curious as to the price on the A200, which goes for quite a bit more than the A180 in Oz.

Edit - Oh, there's the prices now :p

R300k?? for the cheapest one? This is a compact hatch we're talking about here isn't it?

Okay wtf is going on isn't that C-class territory or have prices gone up again? They go up everyday it seems

I suggest you price the equivalent Audi A3, VW Golf and others in this segment
Prices are silly no doubt.

C-class is closer to R400k, as is BMW's 3-series. Cars got expensive lately. :(

Geez feels like only months ago the 3 in 3-series stood for 300K in my mind
Who in their right mind would pay close to half a million for a mid sized family sedan?

I don't get it every 25year old drives a GTI! Are they robbing banks?

More people than those willing to drop close to R500k on a Golf, and considering how many Golf R's I've seen on the road along with new BMW 3-series, it seems people have cash to burn. Or I'm in the wrong line of work. Who knows?

Entry model is only slightly more than the top Hyundai i30... No brainer really. Especially if those prices include the 120000 km motorplan.

Fixed it for you.
Unless 80% of people driving past me are footballers in europe on weekends.

From the BMW.co.za website

R360k for 320i 6-speed Manual (before R40K discount)

It would be my choice as well. It's a beaut.
One thing to consider is that although prices have gone up (a lot) most of these cars have grown quite a lot and have jumped a class. The current 3 series is bigger than the 5 series of not so long ago and has a lot more features to.

That is great news.

It comes with minimal extra's if memory serves, last I checked. The other day, when I did a quick calculation, it worked out to R400k for me before a discount. A4 is a good option as well, at a similar price but with a very, very long options list. The base C-class comes in at R380k and quickly climbs if you go for some options.
