Its an industry that will not go away and the regulations are there to protect the consumer.
But I must say that the most vocal complaints I get at work are consumers that have accessed mobile content, knowing its full costs and content, and then attempting to deny it for various reasons: High Bills; Partners finding Embarrassing content.
People who sign-up for these things are generally not too tech savvy. I've seen so many of those websites which say click here for a free this or that, finally by the time the user enters their details, there some information at the bottom of the page which people don't see.
It's daylight robbery, and because the amounts are too small, nobody does anything about it. More than these theives, I take exception with the Networks (Vodacom, MTN, Cell C) because they're only to happy to sit by and let these theives operate because at the end of the day they get a cut.
I also don't appreciate the TV channels airing those sms sex ad's during normal programming. DSTV no longer airs them during the 11pm slot on MNET ACTION after I lodged a complaint. Would record Stargate Atlantis at the 11pm slot and watch it on weekends. During the ads, guess what sms sex ads. DSTV and Etv were/are only too happy with the revenue.
Don't get me started on that f*cking Brainbox bs.
Generally, these sms companies/operators don't abide by the rules. Also, most people don't know that if they send stop to the message it should unsubscribe them. Interestingly, on this, I tried it on 2 phones which were subscribed and it didn't work. Had to phone Vodacom to find out the companies name and phone them. One was Integrat, the other was CoinTel - an Internal Vodacom WASP.
