New Mobo?

Geez dude that is expensive for that mobo hey.

If you are thinking about spending cash on that mobo you should consider upgrading now.

P7P55D ASUS Intel P55, LGA1156, 4xDual DDR3 2133(O.C), 2xPCI-x16(CrossFire), 2xPCI-x1, 3xPCI, 6xSATAII(Raid 0,1,5,10), 1x eSATA, 1xATA133, Gbe Lan, 8ch-Sound HD, Max 14xUSB, 2xIEEE1394, ATX (For Core i-5) R 1,355 excl. R 1,544 incl.

Add in a cpu for 1.7k-2k and then ddr 3 memory which you needed to buy anyhow.

I cannot see how it makes sense to buy a 2.1k lga 775 mobo now.

It's 2.1k  i should've checked the link :D

That's insane. Why do you need DDR3? you can get a cheaper board that will take DDR2 and be much cheaper. Anyhow, if you're going to get that board get DDR3 RAM that runs at 1.65v or less so you don't have to change your RAM when upgrading to i3/i5/i7

im not too clued up on the processor side, i was trying to get a mobo that fitted my current 775 socket, are 775 sockets slow or outdated - are they not making them faster?, im glad i asked here would of been a bad buy, so Killerdoob are you saying have patience and get a mobo with a better socket for future improvement.
I currently use core duo quad Q6600 with geforce 8800 gts, i bought a full tower case and wanted to slowly migrate my pc to a new setup using my gfx from old as machine was overheating

i decided on DDR3 coz i saw that the boards that can take up to 16gb ram are mostly DDR3, so i was trying to plan ahead

Ya dude i would suggest you rather save up for a newer socket hey.

You could even instead of buying a new mobo drop that 2k on a ati 4890 rather.

It would smash 2 8800gts's in sli. Your cpu is good enough for now and ddr 3 will not really make your system much faster.

It depends what you want though, if you game rather upgrade your vga card. To me spending 2.1k on old tech is not the best idea. Are you ever going to use 16gb of ram? If you are planning for the future it should not include lga 775.

ya that makes sense, thanks for your help, i used to use an ATI card a whiel back, but have used nvidia for the last 5 years, silly mental block that ATIs arnt as good as Nvidia, will take a look at that ati and upgrade gfx first, ThanQ

At this stage its better and more economical if you trade up rather. Performance gain and thus value for money in much better. The current new technology is faster by miles, use less power and breaks in at a similar price than upgrading with the older tech. So Yeah its better to start new at this stage of the game and then be ready for the future. You may maybe keep your case tho. Just depends on the power supply. Sometimes its cheaper to buy a complete box with a decent supply installed than only the separate supply alone.

Good luck

ok cool, what socket would you reccommend, 1156, i will keep case Coolermaster 932, am getting the CM ultimate 900w psu for it

Depends on your budget but yea 1156, i7 but that is getting expensive.

If you sold your q6600 for let's say 700 bucks you could afford a mobo plus cpu i think :D for the same price as that dfi lan mobo then just add ddr3

Check the power budget first. maybe you will not need more power unless you trade up with the newer high performance ATI cards. 1156 is the first price with a I3? I5 for starters unless you are like me and bite the bullet, then an I7 will do fine! just fine.

DDR3 is getting cheaper than DDR2. If the go the intel way its not worth it to buy LGA775 again. If i was upgrading now i would go the AMD way. Good price/performance ratio.

But thats just me.

100z, i see one here i7 860 for R2999 yeah slightly pricey, gaawd now to have patience lol
so....
mobo/1156 type - R1500 -? heard Asus boards require asus hardware? so not sure bowt this one
psu - R2500 - 1000w Cm ultimate
new cpu 1156 type intel i7 860- R3000
ati 4890 R2500 - R3000
ddr3 4G R2500
watercoolingR2500

Sure? Tell us more! Please, I would really love to know which AMD system beats the Intel systems in price performance!

Core i5-750 Core LGA1156 2.66GHz 8Mb Cache R 1,649 excl. R 1,879 incl.

i7 if you have cash to blow i reckon, amd is a decent choice i must admit to upgrade.

Amd 965 is on par with i5 750 actually, only i7 amd struggle with and possibly i3 but the 965 is a good cpu capable of holding it's own against the i5. For gaming it is perfect.

AMD hey, have never owned amd, my machine is mainly used for gaming and watching big mkvs, media gaming pc, will take a look, will either be i7 or that amd, thanks for all ya help guys:)

Rough estimate of an i5 rig

I5 750 1.8k
2x2gb corsair 1.4k
P7P55D 1.4K
4890 2.2k
600w Vantec PSU 0.8K

Don't get an i3.
