So my sisters bf got a usb modem from mtn (not sure which) and has been using it happily - or not... He and my sis did a comparison by surfing two websites and measuring the amount of used MB's. The same sites, the same pages. His: 6meg, hers, 0.5meg. Is there something going on there?

Oh yes, and can you use a Vodacom prepaid sim in an mtn hsdpa modem?

Thanks all!

Watch out for things downloading data in the background, like Windows's automatic updates for instance. Be sure to get a decent firewall as well, as the one that comes included with windows is not very secure.

hmmm... didnt think about that, im sure they thought of it themselves though... anything else?

You didn't specify, but are they using the same device?

Has she visited the site before? It may be cached.

Yes, works perfectly, even better than an MTN pre-paid SIM. ;)

YEah thewy were using the same device. Actually, come to think of it - the cache might just have been the discrepancy. Thanks. Oh and now that they can use her megs on vodacom - wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :)

ps: you sure that you can use it without any jiggery pokery with the bios on the modem? ta

They can't use her "megs", she'll need to get a new data bundle on Vodacom.

one of three things are happening here.
1. the software for the datacard dialup is faulty
2. the datacard itself is faulty
3. there's a bug on the pc

4. mtn just sucks?

i mean i prefer mtn generally - dont get me wrong. but with data they are pathetic. its the only reason i actually have a vodacom sim card. just for data, nothing else. had way too many (other misc.) problems with mtn to make it worth my while...
