Here's an interesting question:

Does anybody out there know if it would be possible to "build" your own HD decoder in much the same way that guys who have home theater PC's have in the past with the current DSTV decoder. Currently you need and IRDETO cam module and a few other bits and pieces, which works out kinda expensive, however, HD tuners are not overly expensive, and surely it could work out as a viable alternative to purchasing DSTV's new decoder?

1080i50 is basically the same as 720p as 1080i is 'interlaced' so you need 2 frames to make an image where as with the p (progressive) you only need 1 frame as it produces a whole image on one frame. 1080p is miles ahead, quality wise, from 1080i

It's not the same as 720p. I'm not going to explain this again.

If it has an 'i' on the end of it, it is not worth reading the first part.

That's not true. That statement does not make sense.

PACE DS810XE Satellite Receiver HD
You can buy one for about R1300, why bother building one?
Then add another R700 for the IRDETO CAM.

This should work. (SHOULD!)

Option 2:

Check out the Technomate 6800 and 6900 at www.satellitesuperstore.com/technomatehd.htm
this has an embedded multicam which works in IRDETO 2. Pricey though, R3400 tax exempt.
