I Just got the notification of the "Upgraded" "DownPriced" ADSL Offerings form Mweb. I phoned the Sales Dept and asked a few questions:

me: I see that on the ADSL Business Brochure that I downloaded off your site states that you are offering a "low contention ratio". What is the Contention Ratio of the ADSL Services offered.

Mweb: Please Hold... (Wait for 5 mins).. My Manager says that the contention ratio enables higher international bandwidth speeds.

me: That is dependant on what the actual ratio is.. I know what the definition of contention ratio is.. what I want to know is what are the actual ratio figures? 20:1,10:1,100:1?

Mweb: Please Hold.. (2mins)...Im sorry we dont have those figures at this time but we can assure you that is is faster...

me: Well thats stupid .. one of your key advertising points and you dont know the figures...oh well, Next question.. If I supply my own Router are we still bound to the 12 month contract?

Mweb: you cannot supply your own router.. Mweb will supply you with a Cisco 877

me: so I can take this month by month..

Mweb: no

me: May I then request a different router like a Billion?

Mweb: Mweb will supply a Cisco 877 but there is stock we can supply you with a billion..

R U by any chance a rival co trying to discredit them , Because I think the move they made is brilliant and welcomed even with short commings which are to be expected in an undertaking of this size what it boils down to is we HAVE UNCAPPED ADSL from R220 to R540

Live with it dont complain if this is the start it can only get better.

Sorry.. Got Distracted.. Forgot to Ask:

Does Anyone actually know the contention ratio of the new Mweb Offering?

And I put all the info just in case anyone didnt know..

The consumer one is 20:1, the business one wasn't stated in the article I read. Don't know where I read it though, was either here or on news24

Im not trying to Discredit them.. I think its a Brilliant Package.. I wanna go for it but would like to know the ratios so that I can see if its gonna be worth it.. if the ratio is as high as what we are on at the mo then I must think of alternate solutions... and more expensive solutions...

any body have any reservations about this sevrvice in terms of browsing speed ? does anyone think there will be a noticeabloe difference in speed during bus hours (not gaming not downloading just good old browsing you tube etc ? ? worried about canceling my current uncapped at 2700 I cant afford downtime ???

I know some people complained about not being able to get decent speeds on youtube, but the other browsing seems to be fine.

JWillis why not sign up for 1 month and use it, if it isn't good enough for you simply cancel it. Only cancel your R2700 option if you are happy with the MWeb service. Simple

Personally, I'd suggest signing up for the consumer option - it will work with your current modem, and there's no contract.

After you've tried it out for a month or two, you could then consider moving over to the business option - it would only be better, not worse!
