It's a new law from what I remember. I for one think it is good. I see far too many BMWs without front plates. Same goes for those GTIs that keep "losing" their plates.
There was talk about this, but AFAIK there is no law that the plate must be metal. I think it has to do with how the plate is fastened to the car. You can't use velcro, for instance.
AFAIK all new cars must now come with a special bracket that bolts to the car body. So the rivets are into the bracket, not your pristine new bootlid or front bumper.
True. These brackets even have part numbers, so you can go to GM or Forsdicks or wherever and get a new one should the old one be broken.
