A colleague just bought a brand new BM.
The new numberplate is secured with rivets...
Its not so bad, but the plate is METAL!!!

It's a new law from what I remember. I for one think it is good. I see far too many BMWs without front plates. Same goes for those GTIs that keep "losing" their plates.

METAL:eek:....no thanks.

I bought my car 3weeks ago and i got normal plastic plates....

Yes, definitely a good thing. Far to many tossers in fast cars get away with driving too fast due to lack of plates. If you are going to speed, at least own up to the fine if you get caught. Also, now we can report these idiots and maybe get them in trouble.

Lol

When are they going to bring out the new plates with the built in transponder/identification module?

yeah i had a thread on that. I didnt know they plates had to be metal though, knew they had to be rivitted on.

Metal plates are crap.

So who attached the rivets? BMW? or some licencing guy?

I want to see a guy with a bently let somebody rivit a plate to the car.

Really?? Did you get those new yellow numberplate holders? Is the plate riveted in each corner?

He has a fully speced new BM with adaptive lights etc and metal numberplates!!:p It looks cheap!!

Post a pic, blur out the actual numbers. Would love to see what it looks like.

Those were .

Rivets aren't tamper proof just BTW but i guess its better than double sided tape...

is the new law for fixing the plates to the car is only for new cars?

then probably another reason the 2nd hand carmarket might lift its head...lol

The guys who like their sound in their cars are going to hate this!!
The rattles will be like the early 90s all over again!:p

yeah that'll suck. foam or polystyrene(spelling) was sometimes inserted between the plate and the body but this may not be possible with the rivetting.

AFAIK all new cars must now come with a special bracket that bolts to the car body. So the rivets are into the bracket, not your pristine new bootlid or front bumper.

Yip! The Bracket however is drilled into the bumper, but done from the dealer... well the one Ive seen.

i noticed a new BM yesterday with a black plastic bracket. no plates on just some yellow foam or something on the bracket. looked hideous.
