That's just amateur defending. Even kids are taught to play to the whistle.
Absolutely thats why
Valencia was poor in that situation.

Well they're already not following the new rule as per Liverpool's goal just now.
Correct. When Coutinho attempted to play the ball the assistant referee should have flagged him as offside.
Speculation on sky that line ref was following Benteke and there missed Coutinho - lucky for us
Soccer/football now has become like rugby with it's pointless and unnecessary rule changes. They fuk with the offside rule, but do nothing about the tackling, choking, shirt pulling, pushing, grabbing etc. that happens inside the box during corner kicks.
This allowed behaviour has taken the advantage completely out of attaining a corner kick. They show the incidents on TV over and over again, but nothing gets done.
They should just stick to the basics. If a guy is on the wrong side of the line it's offside. At some level he is getting an advantage even if it seems like he is not interfering with play. It's easy to apply since the guy with the flag simply runs up and down the line and flags if a player is offside.
No need to interpret his intention or the level of his intention towards the ball. Players should just learn to get back onside.
Exactly what you said. Offside traps is a difficult skill that defenders have to master. It doesn't help when a few attackers are able to dance a fandango from an offside position to distract the defence and more importantly the goalkeeper
I don't agree with this. It's something I always hated with the old rule. You might header the ball and the goalkeeper saves it and it rebounds to one of your players and he scores. Now you might still be getting up and be nowhere near the goalkeeper but it's no goal because you were in an offside position.
