New or Used?

Okay So am looking around for a good SUV that I can take offroad.

I like Nissan and the X-Trail. There is a new X-trail 1.6 DCI 4x4 which looks very good, but new it goes for R380k. I will wait for used / demo model with 20k on the clock and bring it down to R300k before I consider it.

So my question, looking at above. Would you go for a newish demo car or something totally different with more mileage? Don't want a super 4x4, just SUV.

If you want a REAL SUV then simply go and buy a new Subaru Forester.

Perfect on and off road, permanent AWD, Highest safety rating of any SUV in the world, and a ground clearance of 220 mm which means you can do some pretty serious stuff if you want to.

If you like the X Trail, then buy the X Trail. As you said though, rather buy a demo and get a better price.

Kinda knew the answer before I asked it... now the waiting game starts

Not a fan of subaru look, externally or interior

Fair enough, provided you have looked at and driven the new ones. Most Subaru haters are still thinking that the 2005 - 2008 shape is current.

Finally, I guess looks are more important than the best safety record in the world - pity.

I wouldn't buy a brand new SUV if I know I'm going to do some off roading. If you can get a demo model for a good price, yes. Otherwise go second hand.

I sat in the new Honda CR-V yesterday. I like it!

But did you see the new one? And the space inside? I can fit Zuma's family in there! haha.

It also has a tv in the dash with HDMI capability. Really pretty. But yeah, I can't afford a R6500 monthly payment :(

I looked at it but don't like the look. I think like most people, if safety was at the top of our list then we wouldn't be living in SA. :) But it needs to be safe, but also have some looks with new technology.

I drive the 2.0T Tiguan in my adopted country. Very nice. AWD(4Motion), climate control etc. Not 4X4, but I can still comfortably drive on the beach and rough terrain. The 200mm ground clearance is sufficient for my normal drive and some minor "offroading"

Ja I also like that, but prices of VW in South Africa are just ridiculous. Especially when you still need to add all the extras like metallic paint...

Great cars - I had them almost exclusively as my company cars once they were launched.

Totally brilliant in the dirt - when I was marshalling on the Tour Natal, I couldn't have asked for a better car to shoot between stages in the dirt. Fantastic on the beach as well. Everyone moans about their performance - everyone, that is, who hasn't lived with one. A Subaru doesn't have to be a rip snorting STi to be a fantastic car. 110 kw and 196 nm torque are perfectly fine for a car....unless it's an STi! ;)

Thanks.
I need an automatic for city driving.

Would you recommend a brand new or (if possible) demo model?
