New or Used?

Thanks.
I need an automatic for city driving.

Would you recommend a brand new or (if possible) demo model?

The only "used" ones you will find are ex demo vehicles. Once you buy an XV, you don't sell it, unless the bank is trying to take it away from you!

The automatic is a CVT box that needs to be driven in a certain way, in order to get the best out of it. It BEGS to be driven with a light foot. If you are lead footed, you will be disappointed as it feels dead. Light foot and it sprints along quite happily. :)

I test drove the 2.0i-s cvt today.
Lovely ride. The CVT was disappointing.

They have a very neat , used 2013 2.0i-s for R269k with 75000km.
What should I keep in mind if I went for a high mileage used Subaru?

Yes, you would need me to teach you how to drive the CVT and enjoy it! ;) :p
That is a very low mileage used Subaru at 75000! ;)

Nothing to worry about, actually, there is no longer a cam belt change on that model, and the rest of the car is bullet proof. A very nice buy. :D

So another question here. How high would you go with mileage? Example, looking at 2010 vw touareg with 100k on the clock, 3.0 tdi. Car is in excellent condition but scared if the high mileage.

I don't have mechanic friends who can quickly help when something goes wrong.

Finally, I guess looks are more important than the best safety record in the world - pity.

I look at my dash every day that I drive it. I do not have an accident everyday I drive. Priorities. I own a scoob.

A Subaru doesn't have to be a rip snorting STi to be a fantastic car. 110 kw and 196 nm torque are perfectly fine for a ca

It's a 1.4 T yup; 103kw & 200nm. Same motor used in many GM products; Mokka; Cruze; Astra etc

In KZN it is 'just' fine. In JHb it is asthmatic. you have to give way to hyundais'. At R370 K that is not on.

(btw the cheap one and top of the range come with the same engine).

The new XV is much improved. The price point means that there is more choice of cars. And not everyone wants AWD.

100 000 km is NOT high mileage for a TDi!

You would have to have your eyes poked out before you buy a Duster.

The outside looks OK, but the interior is horrible. Cheap and nasty plastics, the electric window control switches looks like an afterthought, etc. My company Ford Figo looks better screwed together.

I agree but Chris should do himself a favour and check what the tyres cost.
I know someone who owns a Touareg and every time he damages a tyre he has to replace all four at a cost of R20,000 per set because of the all wheel drive system.
Does the Touareg also have air suspension? That can be costly to fix too.

It is not a vehicle I'd like to maintain outside of a service/maintenance plan unless I knew a decent, non-stealership mechanic.
