Got a new PC today, was very sad, because on its first startup it just gave me 3 long beeps, here are the components:

> Motherboard : Intel DP45SG
> Graphics : ATI HD5770
> Memory : 2x2 gig DDR3 1333Mhz aexea
> CPU : Intel Q8400
> Power Supply : HuntKey GreenPower 550
> Screen : Samsung SyncMaster P2270 ( VIA HDMI cable)
> Mouse : Microsoft laser USB
> Keyboard : Dixon USB

Now according to other sites, 3 long beeps indicates a missing keyboard. I have tried different USB ports with no avail. And to my disappointment there are no PS/2 plugs.

Please, please help, please don't tell me something is broken :(

Remove then reinsert the ram, make sure it is fully clipped in.
Make sure to remove the power cable :p

I tried different sockets and it still does that. I will try using only 1 stick now, thanx for the fast reply!

EDIT: Tried only one stick, in all slots, and then the other stick in all the slots, but nothing! Still 3 long beeps. I have also seen that the neon fan is bright for like 3 secs and then it dims, and then the beeps start.

Yeah, tried without keyboard and mouse, only screen and then it still does that.

Identify what BIOS you have and check the error condition here (select your BIOS on right of web page) for a solution:

HOLY CRAP, now it makes like a siren (if I pull the keyboard and mouse) and then after that it makes the normal 3 long beeps. The siren sound is something like "beep, woop, beep, woop".

Thanx riscbroker, will check.

Check that the 4pin power cable is connected to the motherboard and that the power cable to the graphics card is connected properly

Ok checked all the power cables (BTW without the 4 pin on the motherboard it doesn't even go on). The graphics card power is also properly in.

According to this (http://communities.intel.com/message/57264) it is the ram that is not working properly. It is brand new, the board and ram!

I can't believe this, what else can I try?

Please?

Let the PC shop sort it out for you, because it would either be the memory that is faulty or your motherboard.

Ok I will, damn tomorrow is a public holiday.

Oh and BTW, according to the book that came with the motherboard, 3 beeps does definitely indicate a memory failure.

Another possibility.
Repeating High/Low CPU Either the CPU is not seated properly or the CPU is damaged

UPDATE:

Ok Last night I disassembled the whole pc and built it from scratch for the second time. This time I followed the manual that came with the motherboard step by step to be safe. I reseated the CPU, memory, graphics, plugged in the harddrive sata plug.

Then I plugged in the 2x12 motherboard connection, the 1x4 molex motherboard connection, the 2x2 motherboard connection, the 2x6 graphics connection and the sata power plug. I will use an external ROM, haven't plugged that in yet.

Furthermore I connected the front panel precisely like they said on the motherboard diagram.

And once again on first startup, 3 long beeps. I then tried different RAM slots again, and made sure the HDD was plugged in to SATA-0 etc, But still the same problem. Because today is a public holiday I will take the PC in tomorrow to ROX. I know the owner and I'm sure he'll be able to do something. Oh and apparently this board does not work well with PC3 10666, but I made sure and I have exactly what this board needs (PC3 10600, 1.5V).

I you have any other suggestions, please make them, else thank you all for all the help, I really love being part of this forum!

Only connect PSU, CPU, 1 Ram stick & power switch, nothing else and see what it does. After that you can connect the GPU.

Tried that, still 3 beeps...

The chances are probably small but I think I may have found the problem. The RAM I have here is 2 x 2Gb sticks. Now each stick is only one-sided with 8 DIMM modules, so that means that they are high density. I have read that high density RAM has a lot of compatibility issues, can this be it?

I think the problem definitely stem from those ram sticks.. Not sure of the exact problem but I would replace them for sure.

Well no matter if it is the Motherboard or RAM, they have to replace it. The RAM has a lifetime warranty and the board has a 3 year warranty.

BTW I now know that this board only supports up to 2Gbit component density, and only non-ECC RAM. So how exactly can I calculate the RAM density and how to I know if it has ECC?
