So around this time last year I asked for advice on a new PC I was considering to purchase, I unfortunately never got around to that and now have basically have no other option than to fork out the cash and get an entire new system. My old PC is gone and the laptop I'm using at home is about to go to laptop heaven as well(onboard network, monitor output and sound have already gone)

Through necessity my current usage has decreased to Pastel, Office and various other business software and then the wife playing those hidden mystery point and click type games. Should I get a new system this will all change to include WoW and whatever other games I think I may like as well as being linked to my home theatre system downstairs for playing music.

I'm guessing that I may need to spend a lot on this system because my next new one will most likely require another new motherboard due to the new standard set with the i7 CPU's. However as things are with most people at this stage I need to limit my budget and still get something that will last for probably 18 months to two years.

Below is what I have selected so far as an ideal system, now I would really appreciate advice on how to decrease the total price and still get the most bang for my buck. I got all this from Prophecy:

Intel Core2 Duo E8400 - dual core 3.0ghz box cpu R 2,111.47
antec lifestyle series sonata3 - earthwatts 500watt , piano blac R 1,706.37
ASUS P5Q , with EPU-6 ( Energy Processing Unit ) ; intel Quad-cor R 1,887.02
Corsair 2 X 2048mb DDRII 800 kit TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX - XMS2 R 1,068.27
Inno3D 9600GT 512mb Graphics Card PCI-E OC edition R 1,812.94
seagate barracuda 7200.10 st3250620/410as , 250gb, sata2 , 7200r R 616.01
AG NEOVO H-W19 , 19" wide screen R 2,208.02
Microsoft Dsp windows Vista Home Premium 64bit R 1,399.67
Total R 12,809.77

I'm guessing I can get a cheaper screen, drop 2Gb memory and then skip on Windows, but as I said I need advice as most people should be more knowledgeable than me at this stage...

Dude, that PSU is way over priced. Look for a Coolermaster with the same wattage, it should be cheaper.

And that screen as well, you can get a 22" for that price. The rest of the specs are good. :D

Agree with Elev8r on the PSU, especially for that system.

You can easily get a more than adequate PSU for R700 that will run that system.

Also I would look at getting a Radeon HD4850. They offer really good bang for buck, especially on a 19" monitor. It'l cost about R300 more but is much more competent than the 9600GT

4850 ftw! Go for the IceQ one if you can, better cooling and it's a lil overclocked.

Here's a much nicer screen to go for IMO: http://www.digitaladdiction.co.za/p...=2059&osCsid=21cc75941859f34eb37baaf5b6b8190c

Thanks for the tips so far, I couldn't find a cheaper 19" wide on the prohecy site so I just took one at random, I think they retail around R1600 now?

I'll go check on for another case, will one with a 350w PSU cut it? and swap the graphics cards around.

Pcinternational have some great cases at the moment and their prices are very competitive.

They also do screens so have a look at their 19 inchers

EDIT: SNAP ^^^

Stay with the psu you already chose. The noobs that posted before didn't see that the price includes the case as well.

Some people spend that amount on the case alone.

You will need a quad core if you want to your pc to last a while without upgrading.

While a quad will be slightly worse now, it'll be much better later.

You don't have to go intel.

For that price you could get a 2500mhz amd quad. All intel quads are expensive. You could even get a 2400mhz tri which would last longer.

Why worry about the future when you live in the now. And I am sure the E8500 will outlast the AMD Phenom tri & quad core cpus...

Yeah, but Qwikslver was talking about the Phenom (1 if you want to) and they can't even compete now. Only when you are doing budget shopping and if you look at the original list, I wouldn't call that budget shopping.

yup been reading the Anandtech review and also the Tomshardware review. Seems an okk chip depending on at what price point it comes into the market. To close in performace to the Q6600 and clocked higher.

Overclocks like a dream though with 4gig easily attainable on high end air, 4.4 with water and over 6 with liquid nitrogen.

I think i will be getting one as soon as they are available over here which i think is the 19th of Jan

Because he said he won't be upgrading for a while.

Do you just post without reading threads?
