New PC advice...again

best advice is to wait a month atleast before buying.

soon as the phenom II hits S.A it will drive the prices of both amd and intel down. you will score all the way.

As for intel, they are way over priced and the few mhz difference is hardly noticeable for a home user , not enough to justify the big difference in price.

Can I have your i7 then? :p

Edit: for free?

lol i will be getting it for "testing" purposes for my designers so the i7 will still be my main rig (gave my Q9550 to the wife for work) :)

All my i7 does at the moment is fold for the myadsl team, shall think about playing a game tonight for a change.

p.s. +1 to the wait a bit to see if prices will drop after Phenom ii (think i5 will be out soon as well but not to sure on that one)

Yeah, but Qwikslver was talking about the Phenom (1 if you want to) and they can't even compete now. Only when you are doing budget shopping and if you look at the original list, I wouldn't call that budget shopping.

They are fine if you're not gonna oc. Of course phenom isn't an option if you really wanna oc. You'll only get like another 300mhz.

To get back on track, yes the PC need to be a bit of future proof. I would love to actually start building a system with one of the new mb and cpu's but unfortunately I didn't win the lotto this week.

I'll also most likely be placing my order sometime next month so I'm hoping the overall price of the system I described would have come down a bit. When I place the order it will be a toss up between the Q6600 and the E8400 again, but in the end I will most likely be sticking to Intel, that really is just where my preference is.

Yip. :D

Do you know anything about computers? (since you want to make this personal)

He said he won't be upgrading for a while and you tell him to live in the now.

So you give opposite advice to what he wants. Yet, I know nothing?

Ha Ha Ha.

It's cool. At least since he is ordering next month the Phenom IIs that support DDR3 will be out. Even if he goes Intel, the Phenom IIs WILL make the prices of Intels quad drop.

Dude, that PSU is way over priced. Look for a Coolermaster with the same wattage, it should be cheaper.

yeah my Corsair HX1000W was like only R500 more, for more than double the power

Intel Core2 Duo E8400 - dual core 3.0ghz box cpu R 2,111.47
antec lifestyle series sonata3 - earthwatts 500watt , piano blac R 1,706.37
ASUS P5Q , with EPU-6 ( Energy Processing Unit ) ; intel Quad-cor R 1,887.02
Corsair 2 X 2048mb DDRII 800 kit TWIN2X4096-6400C5DHX - XMS2 R 1,068.27
Inno3D 9600GT 512mb Graphics Card PCI-E OC edition R 1,812.94
seagate barracuda 7200.10 st3250620/410as , 250gb, sata2 , 7200r R 616.01
AG NEOVO H-W19 , 19" wide screen R 2,208.02
Microsoft Dsp windows Vista Home Premium 64bit R 1,399.67
Total R 12,809.77

E8500 is about R50 - R100 more. Could be worth it.

You could save a lot by going for cheaper DDR2-800 RAM. I bet the performance difference will be unnoticeable.

ATI HD4670 is R500 cheaper than the 9600GT and competes with it.

Samsung 22" screens go for around that price.

CPU I may still change, as mentionged the E8500 could be an option, but I'm also still considering getting a quad core, will make a decision before I place the final order.

Cheaper DDR will definately bring the down the overall price as well.

GPU is still a toss up and advice would be welcome.

I think I'll stay with a 19" wide screen at this stage, just to keep the price down.

It seems that everyone is happy with the board I chose, is there much of an improvement in going for the P5Q Deluxe instead? Apart from being able to use SLI?

If ur pc is for gaming forget about quad core,go for intel e series as most games out atm are still single threaded except for the new FEAR which i know is being made on double threaded base..

could help u with deal if ur from CPT...

There are plenty more multi-threaded games.

• Supreme Commander (THQ/Gas Powered Games)
• BioShock (2K Games/ Irrational Games)
• Microsoft Flight Sim X – (MGS)
• Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (Ubisoft/ GRIN)
• Stranglehold (Midway)
• Enemy Territory: Quake Wars (Activision/ iD/ Splash Damage)
• Assassin’s Creed (Ubisoft)
• Warhammer MMORPG (EA/Mythic)
• Unreal Tournament 3 (Midway)
• The Witcher (Atari/CD Projekt)
• Half-Life 2: Episode II (Valve)
• Tabula Rasa (NC Soft)
• World in Conflict (Vivendi/Sierra)
• Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (Gearbox/ Ubisoft)
• Fury (Auran/Gamecock)
• Alan Wake (MGS/ Remedy)

And plenty more to come.

Btw Alan Wake out already?

But Crysis and GTA IV (others too I'm sure) run better on Quad.

There is no doubt that more and more games are going the same way.

Get E8x00 if you want to upgrade your CPU in 6 months, or something.
