New PC components

Same, but i dont feel like paying R600 for a game either.

The 600 Rand for a game works out far cheaper than 300 Rand for the latest PC game which requires purchasing extra components in order to run them at the same level of efficiency as found in a console.

And then you wait a few years and then you have to buy a PS4 because they'll stop making games for the PS3 ;)

Games are still made for the PS2, despite the PS3 being in the market.

PCs become obsolete, as do consoles.

Efficiency is a matter of opinion. The console graphics gets outdated within 6 months of being released thats the time it takes the pc to surpass it.

And you still need a high definition tv to play the console games as they were intended. Which at current prices means the pc works out cheaper.

And now you don't need to spend money upgrade your rig each time you get a new game. You need to replace the mobo, cpu, ram out once every two years and the gfx every 6 months/12 months depending on whether you bought a high end or midrange card.

If you plan/budget correctly you don't need to spend extraordinary amounts to get a good gaming pc.

The console seems cheaper because it doesn't have a huge outlay of cash upfront but over a year a decent gaming pc with games and a console with the same amount of games end up costing close to the same amounts.

Also you can't oc your console if the games start lagging.:D

to beanie, PC components may become obsolete but you can upgrade them part by part and keep them current. for a console a single console comes out every 5 years or so and you have to buy the whole thing, you have no choice of upgrading parts. I have a PC and PS3. and to what you were all talking about earlier if there were 45nm supporting motherboards, the QX9650 is being sold right now and used right now. it is a 45nm quad core, almost like a pre-release of the yorkfield and wolfdale processors. since there is a 45nm quad core out right now and has been for 3 weeks, i suppose that there are motherboards that support it.

there is a bundle with the motherboard and an intel motherboard that supports it. as it says in the description,

" Intel® X38 Chipset
The Intel® X38 Express Chipset is the latest chipset designed to support the next generation 45nm CPU in high-end desktop and workstation platform"

and in the U.S. PC games cost $50 USD at release with microsoft xbox 360 games and sony PS3 games costing $60 USD at release. this means the console games cost approximately 20% more. the PC games drop in price faster though and many times retailers will compete with price; something that they do not have the liberty to do with games whose prices do not drop and are controlled by sony and microsoft after large amounts of time.

I know, that why I said I prefer PCs ;)
