New PC Help

Yeah I guess so. Well certainly not more than 10k for everything, including monitor. Doable?

The main things I want are a nice big screen, for it to run Vista and for it to be quiet and cool...The gaming can come later...

No offense here or anything but don't you think spending that R10K on varsity fees would be better spent? I mean you created a thread that snowballed and people were willing to help you out and now you're willing to spend R10K on PC?

The varsity fees issue is still an ongoing one. I am hoping to have it resolved by some time next week. At which point I will post a thread with all the details of everything and many many thanks....

The purpose of this thread was more to ascertain what a new PC would set me back so that I could save up a little every month. There is no way that I could afford to buy it now, clearly.

I can see already from the research that I have done and the feedback that it is going to be way more than I had hoped for. :(

So I am going to have to stick with the PC I have now, and hope that it lasts i guess :p
 
Well I'm not saying you shouldn't get a new one...I got my new rig at the end of my first year because I wanted to play HL2 and also I needed a decent PC to do my varsity pracs on everyday so I think the money was very well spent. Getting a new PC will definitely improve your varsity productivity so yeah I'm just saying getting fees sorted should take priority over a new PC :)..

I certainly agree with you on that!

I would never think of spending money on anything before my fees are sorted. I am just hopefully going to have sorted my fees by this time next week and am just looking to the future with a positive outlook, in case I am in a position to be able to afford a PC at some point :)
 
hehe lekka then I guess theres no harm in shopping around for parts from now :p

EDIT. on topic you could look for a 8800GTS that doesn't come with any games or anything bundle, that usually drops the price a lot and ALL graphics cards no matter what the make perform at (more or less) the same level. Thats what I did with my 6800GT, I picked up the PixelView version and it performs brilliantly. It can still run all games I throw at it and if it struggles just notching down the AA/AF gives me smooth framerates and I barely notice the loss in quality. I mean hey HL2 runs at 1680x1050 with pretty much everything maxed..

Not from IC, personally dont believe response matters as i have a 8ms and cant notice an irregularity but when mentioned it is a selling point.
